It has been a rough month. I started having severe stomach pains right before Christmas, 2 days before Christmas I had my appendix removed and 3 weeks later my gallbladder removed as they thought that to be the problem I was having. Well now I am still having severe stomach pains with no reliefe. Doctors don't seem to know what's wrong with me and they will not give me any pain medicine so I have to suffer through it. It has been interfering with my daily life I can't function, I can't eat, I have lost almost 22 pounds in a month and I am watching myself waste away. I have started to feel very depressed and spend most of my day crying quietly to myself so that I don't bother my family. I am feeling very hopeless and alone. If never really been this down before so I don't know what to do about it.

I currently don't have a doctor only the surgeon that did my surgery and he doesn't seem to care just keeps telling me to use a heating pad but that doesn't work. My mental health doesn't seem to be of concern to him either

Well that's the first thing to do. Find a doctor to help you. You shouldn't have to suffer

So sorry for your struggles. There is incredible evidence regarding the gut-brain connection and how depression can be affected by our digestive biome. A great resource is Dr. Kelly Brogan (holistic Psychiatrist) who has great information along with many other Functional Medicine Practitioners. I’ve recently found a good Functional Medicine doctor that through simple Biome (digestive system) tests found I have Candida, Leaky Gut and SIBO (small intestine bacterial overgrowth). I also have Hashimottos Thyroiditis – all of which can cause severe stomach pain. No other allopathic doctor has even had this discussion. I hope that you might consider this ‘gut-brain’ connection and know there are good practitioners out there who do care and will do whatever they can to get to the root cause of your distress. Best of luck to you and I sure get it ….

Dear Hopeless & Alone,
Thank you for sharing your present health status and especially your feelings. Many of us have undergone medical procedures and felt similar to you. I know when we are in pain, the pain is an attention getter and keeps us from looking at an opportunity to get healed. I can identify with your depression and crying. I have empathy for you and also prayers. I know you are loved and it usually helps to discuss feelings, etc. with our loved ones. People like and want to help us when we are in distress. As a suggestion, you may want to obtain some second opinions from other Doctors that may help you. I hope you live in an area where you are able to have expert treatment. If so, this too will pass. It takes time for recovery. Please keep us informed to your recovery.

@hgarm If you do not have a family doctor I will suggest you find one. A surgeon is a specialist. Try the family doctor. Not being critical in any way. A suggestion and a direction to go in.

Unfortunetly where I live there is extremely long wait lists to see any kind of doctor. I don't even get to see a GP until February 18th. And with my insurance I need to have a referral from a GP in order to see a specialist. It's going to be a long road I am just trying to get through it but with the pain this bad all I seem to be able to do is cry

I get to see a GP/family doctor in February on the 18th that's the earliest they had available. Unfortunetly it's not easy to see a doctor any more the wait lists are very long

@parus @hgarm When I was misdiagnosed by a Family Practice doctor I was told by a number of other doctors that when you are older you really need to have a doctor of Internal Medicine as your PCP. They are better diagnosticians, and more geared to older people whereas Family Practice doctors are generally more geared to young families.

@hgarm, I am so sorry for your pain. When I am in the middle of a pain cycle, I try to distract myself. I understand about the wait to see a doctor. I just want you to know I’m sending hugs and prayers for you. You can do this! ……..Karen

I am only 28 so I am not sure if o should go to family practice or internal medicine?

@hgarm From what I have been told, you can't go wrong with an internal medicine doctor. They take patients when they are beyond going to pediatric doctors. I think families prefer Family Practice doctors because the adults and children can all go to the same doctor. I have heard of some very good Family Practice doctors, but as I said, I have been told that internists are more geared to more complex conditions.
JK
@hgarm you have a bit of a wait to see the doctor. It always seems to take longer too if you are not an established patient. They might have a list of people whom they call in case of a cancellation. If I were you I would try to make sure they will call you if there is.
What you are going through sounds extremely difficult. You might even try an Urgent Care center. They might be (I'm not sure about this) an avenue to get to see the doctor more quickly.

Sorry. What's the next step . Are you your Dr in follow up? There's a answer out there. Keep advocating and pushing Drs for answers. It's understandable that you feel hopeless.
