Fearing risks of Prolia

Posted by slr1 @slr1, Jan 6 8:55pm

I am going to my pcp tomorrow morning to discuss whether to start Prolia or Jubbonti after getting dexa scan results showing my osteoporosis has gotten worse. I took Ralaxifene for the last 2 years and it didn't help. I have researched these 2 drugs and have read a ton of bad side effects from patient reviews and I am really nervous to try! After taking Boniva just one time in the past, I felt like I was ran over by a truck for 3 days and I refused to ever take a biphosphate again. I am thinking about not starting a new drug and exercising more. Any input is much appreciated!

@leslieb52 Sort of Vacation. Visiting my daughter and grandkids in Qld. I've from Victoria. About 2 hour flight. Not me that gave you the drinking water tip. That's if you take Fosamax which is a pill and can give you reflux if you don't drink lots of water after you take it. We don't need to do that on prolia. I think this rash came out after about the 4th shot which I got in March 2025. I didn't really notice it until around June but around that time I had a COVID shot so who knows?? Side effects with Prolia can happen at any time, doesn't necessarily have to be straight after you get the shot. I have heard that the longer you're on it, the more likely you are to get a side effect. Having said that, I've been totally fine with it so in a way I'm hoping the rash isn't from that because it really has been ok. Best of luck with your first injection. Just know that there a lots of people who don't have side effects, in fact the majority, so I'm sure you'll be just fine. xo

@ausiemaggs73 yes, I got your response. I didn’t realize you were in Queensland, but now I see the Australian connection. I am in Portland Oregon.
Thanks for the update and the support and I hope everything goes well with your endo appt.
I am going in for my pre Prolia blood test tomorrow. I am seeing my pcp next week, just to get everything straightened out.
I am taking anti anxiety pills just because I have been doing too much googling on side effects of Prolia.
I get my shot on Jan 29.
Keep those good vibes coming my way.
Tell me more about your rash. Just so I can keep an eye on my body.
Iwant to be in the no reaction club.
So, are you a Maggie?
I am Leslie.

@leslieb52 Hi leslie - I'm in Victoria, my daughter's in Qld. Yes, stop googlng! lol I'm trying to stop too but I'm addicted to Dr Google! Don't worry, you'll be fine. My rash is actually non symptomatic which is why I didn't really worry about it at the start. But, yes do keep your eye on things and be aware. Yes Leslie, I'm Maggie (or Margret with different spelling) x

Hey there. Been a while since I posted. I need/want good mojo and energy. I am going in for my first Prolia shot tomorrow, jan28.
A bit about me, I am 73 yo, small boned and weigh 120.
I have balance issues and am more afraid of fractures than possible side effects.
Positive energy only please.
Thanks all
Aussiemaggs73. Are you still there!

At today's pcp appt, I learned she misread the dexa scan report and my lumbar T score was not significantly worse than scan 2 years ago, but a slightly better number. My hip and femoral score was slightly worse. We made a plan. For now I am staying on Ralaxifene, scheduling a consult with an endocronologist as recommended, self-paying for a dexa scan at the end of the year, then will decide whether to do the Prolia route. I do not want any fracture of anything!!!
I thank each one of you gals for your input and advice! I will continue with this group! So glad I found you all!!!

@slr1 going back over the posts, conforming my decision to do Prolia.
Starting tomorrow, Jan 29. Send me positive energy and mojo.
Getting nervous, but also know I have balance issues and don’t want to fall and fracture anything.

Hi, I am sending you good vibes! I am a 72-year-old woman. I have been getting Prolia injections for 1-1/2 years; my fourth shot is in mid April. I was very nervous at first; it took me a long while to commit, even though I trusted my then osteoporosis doctor (who was also an orthopedist). But in my case I was out of options. (My bone density/hip was not good and worsening; I rejected bisphosphonates as I was afraid of them, as I have two joint replacements and feared bad mojo.) We agreed that Prolia was my best choice at that point. I have had no side effects whatsoever related to the injections. (Hooray!) I am committed now to taking Prolia the rest of my life, unless medical science finds a better alternative. And they might! I have a new osteoporosis doctor (my first doctor retired!), and this one is a sports medicien specialist, which is encouraging me to get/stay in my best shape with PT and daily exercises and walking. ALL THE BEST to you on your Prolia journey!

@monotypegirl thank you so much. That is what I needed to hear. My t score is -2.6. I didn’t want my numbers to get worse.
I just have to work on balance and hope my numbers improve when I get my next scan.
It took a long time for me to commit. Prolia was the best choice for me since other drugs like fossamax and reclast didn’t give the results my doctor and I hoped for.
Reclast will be my rebound drug if I have issues with Prolia.
I have to get in the routine of daily exercises and balance and balance.
Thanks again.
