Fear of flying with heart disease

Posted by claudia2 @claudia2, 2 days ago

I am afraid of flying alone because of my heart disease. I have had numerous stents and quad bypass but still have some blocked vessels and scar tissue. I have angina and next tightness and get short of breath. When I fly with someone I have to take Ativan but am facing a flight alone. Anyone else deal with this?

@claudia2 I can imagine your anxiety. Is it a flight you have to take, to visit a loved one? If it is not absolutely necessary I would not do so, just for my own peace of mind. If you have to fly due to an unavoidable circumstance I hope you can take comfort knowing that flight attendants are trained for emergencies and you should be in good hands.

As long as your doctors have given you the go ahead to fly, you should be okay. Easier said than done … I know … perhaps you could let the flight attendants know about your medical condition and anxiety, in addition to keeping your Ativan on hand …? My daughter has severe allergies (anaphylactic) so she gets very anxious when flying too. Flight attendants have been very good to her each time,
