Excessive mucus production in the upper respiratory system and throat.
Good Afternoon, I'm looking for some treatment advice for my post covid chronic condition. I had covid Jan 2021, I was put on a respirator twice that year ( first time for 9 days, second time later that year for 5 days). My lungs were scarred and damaged by covid and my capacity has diminished to 46%. I developed a cough due to excessive mucus production that always occurs in the morning and randomly though out the day. The coughing fits will last 5 -10 minutes which can include a sense of drowning or a gag reflex. I am not able to identify a common trigger for these fits with the exception that bending over for a period of time or physical exertion can be a trigger. The mucus produced is clear with bubbles and there is no pain associated with the cough. I been tested for allergies, acid reflex, have had the Clarifix and Rhinaer procedures done (that was a waste) and have been prescribed many nasal sprays . I have seen 3 ENT's, 2 pulmonologist and my Primary so far with no relief. I'm finding the medical community I have encountered are unable to help me manage this chronic condition. I see many on you on this support group have a similar lasting condition. I'm hoping for some insight on a treatment you have received that has relieved your condition so that I can make suggests to my doctors. Thank you in advance for you information, John Porter

Chew sugar free cinnamon gum, Ice Breakers. It keeps the phlem drawing down.. It saved me. I think it's the cinnamon.
I clear mucus from the back of my throat at least 20 times an hour . Only had Covid once in 2022 and never had symptoms but had a hard time testing out of it.
The mucus or pleghm is milky white, sometimes clear and sometimes bubbly. I don’t really cough- just use the gag reflux to get it out of back of throat and spit out. If walking I spit on ground, in house spit in toilet or garbage. Annoying and consistent.
I am on CPAP so contacted my pulmonologist and we tried changing mask and air pressure- didn’t work.
It has been going on for 18 months.
I also convince the pulmonologist to conduct a breathing test on my lungs- tested normal. Have not had a lung X-ray.
If I am driving for a long period of time and not able to clear my throat or nose I start to get an ache in front of my left ear- never effects my other ear- just left. It hurts bad. Once I am able to get stopped and clear out it goes away.
I also have tinnitus.
I had a sudden bloody nose about 5 months ago on the left side. ER visit and put in the Rhino pug. ENT remove it and did and endoscopy and saw broken blood vessels so put in another plug with medication to stop and have not had another bloody nose. I also set up humidifiers all through the house.
All the doctors recommend the allergy meds and I have tried them all for 2 or 3 months at a time, first Claritan, then Allegra, then Zyrtec, now I am trying Xyzal- no luck.
The mucus sitting in back of throat constantly has made my voice to start getting hoarse.
I have also tried the Gerd meds as I researched where silent acid reflux could be culprit. These have not worked so far - been using for a month.
I worry about some underlying health issue causing this but so far all the doctors do is recommend antihistamines and rinses.
I also have Bradycardia so I worry that the pleghm could be fluid that it’s heart related but my doctor said no.
I have never had allergies in my life but understand that as age - I’m 69- that can change.
Any insight is welcome. So annoyed with this.
@msiowa my husband has the exact symptoms and had so many tests with no results including several heart tests and even a loop recorder put in his chest. Next test is a swallow test at the end of May. He also has brain fog. So far no help from medical field. He is 67. I feel like he has aged at least 10-15 years in the past 3!
I will post what happens with swallow test. Keep us posted if you find relief. I’m so sad our lives has drastically changed.

It sounds like what I experienced. I finally figured out on my own that it was Due to severe Inflammation that Long covid causes the human body . Some people end up with The overactive immune like me which is when the inflammation starts because the immune system can not actual get rid of the Covid19 or variants. The reality is the COVID-19 cells snuck into another cell and that way it wouldn't be found to begin with. It is also a reason why so many of us felt little to almost no symptoms really when we get covid 19
