Evenity Injection Site Pain and The Next Step

Posted by berniebrooks3 @berniebrooks3, Jul 11 8:19am

Hello Everyone - I just had my 9th set of Evenity injections in my arms two days ago. So far this is by far the most painful I’ve felt following a arm injection. They haven’t really bothered me before except for a little tenderness. Last month I had the injection in the back of thigh and 1 month later I’m still in quite a bit of pain. I can’t sit for more than a few minutes without great discomfort (including driving a car). Prior to last month, I’ve never had discomfort with the thigh injections. I spoke to my doctor and she waved me off saying that this can happen….Although I really hate the stomach injections, I’ll do that for my 10th injection next month. Wondering if anyone else has experience with injection site pain as the series progressed. I’m also hoping the pain in the back of my thigh will dissipate soon. It’s not getting any better after a month so far….Like others, I also have joint pain that continues to worsen and am really hopeful that is will improve after my last injection. I’m not sure what I will do after Evenity. My doctor likes Reclast but I had terrible side effects when I first tried Fosamax (also a bisphosphonate….) I am not a big fan of prolia because it doesn’t kill or suppress Osteoclasts and I don’t want to be on a drug for life. Of course I sure don’t want to rebound after all that I’ve been though. I’m researching Keith McCormick and may try to get an appt with him for his advice. I have been an athlete all of my life and now I don’t want to get out of bed. This all happened so quickly….I love this blog and any and all advice is so greatly appreciated. My best to all you girls on this journey.

@berniebrooks3,

I can’t imagine how Evenity injections in the back of my thigh or in my abdomen would feel - yikes!

I had all 12/24 Evenity injections in my upper arms. There were months where one arm was ouchier than the other, and some months where one arm was red and swollen at the injection site for a few days; I liken the reaction to getting a flu shot. None of these issues lasted for more than a few days.

Ask your practitioner to take the meds out of the fridge about 20-30 minutes before your appointment; that may help. You could also try applying some ice to the sites.

Everyone is different, but Reclast has been smooth sailing for me since 2011.

Hoping your last few injections go smoothly and pain free. Cheers!

I'm facing my last Evenity this month. You mentioned reclast since 2011. Have you ever had holidays? I'm thinking alendronate, if tolerable, and effective enough to hold gains. Sad we have to figure this out on our own at times. My Doc is recommending Prolia, and that is not an option for me at 70.

My primary doctor who recommended Fosamax when I was diagnosed two years ago told me then that all meds were very similar and the difference being whether you take them orally or by injection and also how often. I had no idea how wrong she was until I had a terrible reaction to Fosamax and started doing (and continue to do) my research. Everyone is different and answers are not easy to come by.

My primary doctor told me the exact same thing. That must be their script from drug companies. I am currently waiting as I eat right, take supplements, and do balance, posture, strength and impact exercises. Hopefully may 2026 will show no change or slight improvement.

I am getting my third month of evenity injections in a few hours.
I get them in my stomach area. Since I have had adverse reaction to needles, I just wait 15 min to make sure I’m ready to leave!
I have a scheduled scan after number 4, and see Dr right before that.
Anyone stop the 12 month cycle if mid way scan showed improvement? I’m just checking, not planning on doing it at this point. My main reaction has been the joint pain.
These comments and info certainly help on this journey!
At age 75, getting all the info and personal stories help.,

Hello everyone,
I’ve been taking Letrozole post breast cancer two years ago, and my osteoporosis is quite severe now. Doing research and desperately trying to decide between Evenity, Prolia or Reclast. Terrified of Prolia tenound, especially as I’m only 63. I’d be grateful for any more thoughts and experiences with Evenity treatment anyone might share! Grateful to this community for all the support we’re able to give and receive from each other!

I took Benadryl and Ibuprofen prior to my first Evenity infusion.

Evenity has been recommended by my Dr. I am very concerned about increases in blood pressure I have read about, so still deciding, but do you have a choice in where you receive the injection?

Drummergirl,

I hadn’t previously heard about injecting Evenity into the belly or back of thigh - ouch! - my injections were one in each of the backs of my upper arms. Likely any fleshy spot will do, but the back of my arms seemed natural and quick. After 9-1/2 months of injecting Tymlos into my thighs and belly on the daily, I was happy to have one shot in each of my arms per month!

Ask your doctor or the nurse who administers the shots about what you prefer and see what they think about it.

Wishing you an easy time and great results in your quest for better bones. Cheers!

I’ve made my own separate post about the terrible side effects of Eventity. This time (third month), I even went to urgent care because my doctor’s office was closed, and I have a high pain threshold, so I only go if it seems scary to me. My entire left side hurts, including my jaw joint, but especially my shoulder, and I have developed two bumps on my back near but not on the injection site. The doctor at urgent care didn’t know what to do or say except that they didn’t think I should have another injection (duh), and I agree. Now, where do I go from here?
