Evenity Injection Site Pain and The Next Step

Posted by berniebrooks3 @berniebrooks3, Jul 11, 2025

Hello Everyone - I just had my 9th set of Evenity injections in my arms two days ago. So far this is by far the most painful I’ve felt following a arm injection. They haven’t really bothered me before except for a little tenderness. Last month I had the injection in the back of thigh and 1 month later I’m still in quite a bit of pain. I can’t sit for more than a few minutes without great discomfort (including driving a car). Prior to last month, I’ve never had discomfort with the thigh injections. I spoke to my doctor and she waved me off saying that this can happen….Although I really hate the stomach injections, I’ll do that for my 10th injection next month. Wondering if anyone else has experience with injection site pain as the series progressed. I’m also hoping the pain in the back of my thigh will dissipate soon. It’s not getting any better after a month so far….Like others, I also have joint pain that continues to worsen and am really hopeful that is will improve after my last injection. I’m not sure what I will do after Evenity. My doctor likes Reclast but I had terrible side effects when I first tried Fosamax (also a bisphosphonate….) I am not a big fan of prolia because it doesn’t kill or suppress Osteoclasts and I don’t want to be on a drug for life. Of course I sure don’t want to rebound after all that I’ve been though. I’m researching Keith McCormick and may try to get an appt with him for his advice. I have been an athlete all of my life and now I don’t want to get out of bed. This all happened so quickly….I love this blog and any and all advice is so greatly appreciated. My best to all you girls on this journey.

Hello to Everyone.
My problem is my shoulder hurts so bad to the point I could cry. It's not all the time. It does affect my neck. I take pain medication and a patch to ease the pain. My shoulders are tight. I went to get a massage and the therapist said my shoulders were tight. The massage helped a lil. Will this ease up with time?

I had my 7th injection recently and developed a huge red sore area on my thigh, about 4X3 inches. It was red and hot. It dissipated but took over a week to do so. I do one arm and one thigh each time, alternating. Your experience has me worried. I never think of reporting to Amgen, not even sure how to do so.

I just received my first Evenity treatment yesterday in my arms. After agonizing about this decision I went ahead as I have significant bone loss at 66 despite being very active. I was surprised to wake up several times in the night with arm pain where just a brush of a touch was painful. The medicine was warmed per protocol with the left arm still burning at injection and the right better yet later now the right is so much more painful. I am not encouraged to hear that it doesn't get better as you go. And my pain tolerance is fairly high. Appreciate the candid posts as feel that honest info may be hard to come by.

@minnied I have had 8 Evenity treatments and for me the first three had side effects of very sore arms. My body must be adjusting to the injections since as I have no more soreness or pain in my arms. The nurse who does the injections always rubs my arm afterwards to help disperse the medication away from the injection site. Another nurse told me some patients prefer to have the injections in their belly. Best wishes for you to have good results and less side effects going forward.

@gale2hankins Thank you for sharing your experience and thoughts. I was surprised on reflection how little direction I received while there the first time. Now with one under my belt (with the help of my friends!) I can advocate better moving forward.

Is lethargy a side effect of evenity ? I started in October 2025 and I just had my fourth shot today
No one can understand the side effects. No one wants to hear about the side effects so talking with others who are experienced by going through this 12 month injection process please share
This is the only place for validation.
I too have been an athlete my entire life, and when I started evenity Injections I feel like some of the life was taken out of me.
I am 73 but I feel like I’ve aged 10 years even the skin around my chin has progressed with wrinkling and lines that were not there in September. Even my aesthetician who takes pictures can vouch for this.
I don’t have the same energy level. I struggle every day with fatigue, but I’m willing to plow through this because what’s the alternative when your bones are like Swiss cheese
I did three years of reclast and I had no side effects
Reclast does not build bone It slows the loss of Bone
So after August, I will resume reclast
But yes, anyone who has any information or can share their subtle or not so subtle side effects of envenity I welcome reading about them
I also want to know if anyone who has finished evenity
do you return to your pre evenity self
I sure hope so

Regarding injection site pain, I had this problem for the first 2 months of shots along with significant swelling at the site, warmth, and redness. One of my providers recommended an ice pack to the sites shortly after the injections. I've tried that (20 minutes cold pack on and then off for 20 minutes). 4-6 times during the course of the day of the injections-- with most of the 4-6 'rotations' within the first few hours of the injections. Nothing magical about 4-6, that was the most I could manage to do during the day. I think it made a big difference! I just completed the 7th month of shots and I still get a local reaction at the injection site but definitely not the significant pain, redness and swelling. Hope it helps for anyone else who tries this strategy.

@delmargrl
I am going to be 72 this year and am going on my 2nd course of Evenity. I completed the first course about 2 years ago and it really improved my bone density by 19%. During that time, I did not have any side effects at all, which is why I am repeating it again this year. I was given Reclast afterwards and now I have lost bone density sinceI have been on it. Has your primary care provider checked to see if your fatigue has any other possible origins? I am thinking checking vitamin levels like D and the B vitamins. Or checked your Ferritin levels (iron storage, a separate specialty test) Or your thyroid levels?

Hi, i am 82 yrs. old and after reading some of your comments & doing some research, i have decided to start the evenity shots in Feb, 2026. It is very scary and I don't feel like doctors are willing to give out to much information. I don't have much of a choice as my osteoperosis is
bad. I was on Fosomax for ten years in my 40's and then stopped. I have been on Actonel for
about 8 yrs. but wasn't being monitored til I asked my primary for a dexa scan and found out
how bad it was. I also fractured my right femur bone last June which luckily has healed nicely.
I thank all of you for your reassurances and pray everyone does well1
