Lowering cholesterol with natural supplements - What is safe?

Posted by pammy6248 @pammy6248, Mar 26, 2025

My girlfriend was telling me about Bergamot natural supplement for lowering cholesterol. Has anyone tried this? I have been on a low dose statin for 3 months and are getting muscel/joint pain. Looking for a natural alternative?? Currently taking Coq10 and red yeast rice as well as other supplements.

Thanks
Pam

I am aware of citrinin that can be found in some red yeast rice so I buy the type that is (supposed to be) citrinin free. My own doctor is fine with me using it. I have always told him about it.

A friend of mine is taking Bergamot instead of statin due to all the side effects of statins. I am waiting to hear from him after his blood tests since he switched.
Interested to know if you have tried Bergamot?

I started a supplement called Durable Heart that has citrus Bergamont. My cardio doc is on board since I couldn’t tolerate statins or Repatha. I have not had a lipid test since starting it. My doctor said wait for my eating habits to get back to baseline after the holidays!

I couldn’t take statins and Zetia wasn’t doing it alone. Red Yeast Rice has an ingredient similar to statins so I am not sure about if it would still cause myalgia. I am in Repatha and great for cholesterol but I hate the side effects. I may not continue.
