Lillbit59 I was on Arikayce for quite some time. What exactly would you like to know? I had no outward side effects except hoarseness like 1-800-call me! I had a lot of the P word as my daughter says ( phlegm) and some coughing. It is time consuming ( sterilization of all parts) and pricey. Insurance and the Arikayce help fund covered it. Otherwise it would have been $12,000 a month. It cured my MAC based on a bronchoscopy. It did inflame my lungs some, but that was my case, and everyone is different. Wishing you well. Irene5
Can you tell me how involved is the sterilization process?
Ok so it used to take approximately an hour of my time start to finish. 45 minutes would probably be accurate too. ( including treatment) . I did it in the evening when things were less hectic. That was my preference. I’m a retired teacher and a rule follower so I made sure I didn’t cut corners or skip a step. I mean it did cure my MAC so there’s that! Irene5
I forgot to say it’s basically just boiling the parts for a certain number of minutes. They give you directions and a mat to dry the pieces on so if you are organized with meal prep it’s not a big deal. I was part of a trial and had a nurse walk me through it all at first over the phone (zoom). I’m 75 and it’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks, but I did just fine with one lesson. I don’t think they even do that now. I’m a visual person so it was helpful. Irene5
Thank you so much for your help. I'm low vision and didn't know if I could take care of it.
Thank you for your help. I'm hoping I will be able to take this medicine.
Wishing you all the best Lilbit59. We are all different but on similar journeys. Mine started in 2014 when I retired because I wasn’t feeling well. It took till 2015/16, and my Ob/gyn who was family did a CT scan which showed the MAC. Arikayce was in the early stages and I had had trouble with the Big3. Arikayce was tolerable . Good luck! You will always find support and information here. Irene5
Thank you so much for your support. Lilbit
