Anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine?

Hello @rungreg, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @lacy2. I have small fiber peripheral neuropathy but it wasn't from getting the Pfizer vaccine. I've had both the first and second shots with just the minor sore arm around the shot the following day and the second day after the last Pfizer vaccine I had the extreme fatigue which my wife and daughter also had after the 2nd shot.

One thing I think helps since the small fiber nerves are close to the skin is to make sure you keep the feet and legs moisturized with a good skin lotion. I've been doing it regularly since being diagnosed with neuropathy. I used to use a magnesium lotion which others felt really gave them a calming feeling in their legs but recently have just used whatever is available. I may try the magnesium lotion again to see if it really makes a difference in the type of lotion. Here are the two I've used.

Have you thought about getting a COVID antibody test?

Have you talked to your dr. to see if he thinks the shot causes people with Neuropathy more side effects & what you should do.
I have it in my feet & legs real bad & take Gabapentin & Cymbalta & I am afraid of the vaccine bc of the side effects.

Thank you for starting this thread. I experienced my first symptoms of neuropathy mainly at night back in January. I also felt tired and achy, did not think much of it. After about a week it went away and was most bothersome at night, to the point it was hard to sleep. I had an appointment with a neurologist but canceled as it went away. Yesterday I received my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and almost within 10-15 minutes small tingling sensations appeared. Last night was similar to what I experienced in Jan, tough to sleep with tingling throughout the body but especially arms and hands, again very hard to sleep. I now believe that I had COVID in January. I am a teacher and we’ve been in the classroom since August so my level of exposure is high. I did not get tested as my symptoms didn’t seem to align with COVID. I am hoping this bout is again short lived. I appreciate all I have read from you folks. Any advice for managing uncomfortable feelings, especially at night, is much appreciated.

How is everyone who got a new onset or worsening of neuropathy from the vaccine doing now? I seem to be having some let up the last few days , but I am megadosing Alpha Lipoic acid, b12 and Vitalituses Palmitoylethanolamide . These have worked in the past for me also. I recommend for anyone with Neuropathy. I did report my case to VAERS. Let me know if any of you are feeling better after the neuropathy induced by the vaccine. If there are 15 or so of us here, there must be so many more suffering after the shot also. I am glad though to be protected from Covid, but holy cow there should be a warning for the neurological possiblities. Does anyone know anyone who didnt have any previous neuropathy that now has it from the shot? Regards, Joe

About 11 years ago I had symptoms that were never diagnosed but definitely seem like sensory peripheral neuropathy. They went away spontaneously in about 3 or 4 months. After the 1st Covid 19 shot ( Pfizer), it all came back. It's been almost 3 weeks and nothing has changed, maybe a bit worse. I have an app't with my primary care but dread the response as it appears any association with the vaccine is being discounted. I can't see getting the 2nd shot with symptoms still going on but feel so unsure where that leaves me as far as the vaccine requirement is concerned. I'm hoping things will calm down but I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm thinking of trying ALA and Vitamin B12.

I have idiopathic small fiber neuropathy with burning, numbness, and lots of pain in my feet and legs. After I got my 2nd Moderna vaccine I had a slight headache and increased pain in my legs the next day (yesterday). So far today I think my leg pain has subsided to it's normal level (still not good but better than yesterday). Hopefully the vaccine has not had any lasting affect on my neuropathy. I am looking forward to not worrying about Covid-19 now. My neurologist approved me getting the vaccine.

Hello @lucyrennell, Welcome to Connect. Thank you for sharing your experience with the Moderna COVID vaccine. I too am looking forward to not having to worry about COVID-19 and all the fear that comes with it. Hoping the vaccine doesn't have any long term affect on your neuropathy also. I was fortunate with my small fiber neuropathy in that the COVID vaccine I took (Pfizer) had no affect other than the minor reported ones. Have you thought about reporting your side affect?

My wife and I both had the 1st and 2nd Pfizer vaccine but only had a sore arm from the first one and extreme fatigue the day after the second one. We also used the V-safe After Vaccination Health Checker where we registered after we received the shot and they send you a text message daily for a week to answer a few questions about any side effects and how you are doing. It's really easy to respond to the short survey via your cell phone and hopefully the data will help everyone.

Can you ask your primary care doctor what they recommend when you have your appointment?
