Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

Betty, having information like this isn't for everyone, and there is a learning curve with it.
This morning I had PVC's that went on for what seemed forever. I checked my heart beat to see if it really was racing, or in my mind. I also took an ECG, using my watch, which I could show the doctor, since I had more than usual. The watch also confirmed I was not in AFib.
Also, I think about what could be a trigger. Stress? Diet?...I'm learning as I go and I guess the watch just helps me understand what's going on and will help me in my discussion with Cardiologist.

Thanks..I will look into it.

I find the sleep tracking tell me about how my heart is doing - can track pulse overnight

I am 72 year old male with no prior heart history. Had both vaccines at the end of February, and first part of March 2021. No effects after shots. Developed AFIB in April. Was put back in rhythm in April 2021. Had Booster shot the middle of September. No side effects. Had second episode of AFIB the first of October. Had heart ablasion surgery in November. Again no prior problems until after taking the vaccines. With AFIB so close to the shots makes me wonder if there is a connection.

Betty, I've started using the sleep app on my Apple watch and really like the information it gives me. Technology is amazing.

Same here! Healthy 71yo with no priors. Had booster in Oct and AFIB events in Nov, officially diagnosed in Feb, and now on daily meds. Awaiting echocardiogram in May.

Similar experience April 21, healthy daily cyclist, after two ER visits had ablation for Afib/flutter. I continue to have PCV's and high heart rate. Wish I had never had the vac and ablation.

Thank you for sharing. Where did you have the ablation? Which kind?

I'm not sure how to respond to the type? As explained nerves were burned, I've not been able to see the Electro post-surg, just his leagues of PA's/techs. It was performed in McLaren, Flint MI.
