Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

Yes, but thought just allergies. Mucus also. It's been going on since Covid last year. Never connected to Covid but it's been awful. Thanks for sharing.

See my earlier post. I had the same issue since January. ENT Dx: Chronic Neurogenic Cough / Throat Clear. After 1 week of treatments it’s gone. It was 4 months of agony with the mucus and constant cough.

What kind of treatments are you referring to? Neti pot? Or something else?

My 3 month treatment plan is attached

Yes. I did and do especially allergy season. My ent talked me into a septum surgery for slight deviated septum, and another soft issue procedure in the naso pharynx region. Can’t say it helped. He prescribed Fluticasone Propionate and Ipratopium bromide initially. He then added a Neilmed Sinus Rinse that does dislodge many interesting looking “items” on their way down my throat. Seems to help.
I found Sudafed helpful but my heart situation prevents me from using it any more. Mucinex has also helped on occasion.

Lol I forgot (imagine that!) to add that I try to start each day with 8 ounces of water, then I have either green tea (the kind with caffeine because heaven knows the extreme fatigue is always present) or I squeeze the juice of one lemon (organic if you can find them) with honey and hot water. Both beverages help thin the mucus in my throat.
At night I sometimes have more green tea, (minus the caffeine) and soak in as warm/hot water I can tolerate with Epsom salt for 20 minutes, letting the bathroom steam up. This serves a dual purpose, it seems to help with the drainage & mucus issue and promotes sleep which is another major problem. Hope this helps you too. Also try to find a good ENT that’s not surgery/procedure only oriented. Mine is terrific, I have had Balloon Dilation pre-Covid, which helped then and continues to help now.
Fingers crossed all will find some degree of relief soon!

I had COVID 2/2020 and have long haulers. Dealing with same issues, plus so many more. Taking 1 Musinex 1200, nasal spray rx, an using Neilmed nasal rinse( nedipot), started using Ayr nasal gel 3-4 x a day. I use Bipap also.

YES!! And still 9 going on 10 months now. Drives me coocoo. Also same in regards to no approach relieves it. I am thankfully that my throat is free of this clinger(lol), however my nose fights for any even minute clearing. I just try to not give it my thought or energy, and make a joke or at least laugh once a day at it as well as all the other issues in my body that have joined in the party with all of this.

My older sibling has had success using a infrared sauna mounted inside her closet. She uses it in lieu of medication to keep her nasal passages clear. I understand doctors do not want patients with cardiac conditions to touch these however. It sounds like one should run use of this modality by one's physician.

I've only had this post Covid but it's been going on about a year. I am getting some help with a Neti Pot. I've stepped it up from once a day to twice. I add baking soda to it.

I had to use the NeilMed sinus rinse (with the packet of salt/baking soda and a pinch of iodine) 2X/day for two weeks before having the Vivear radio-frequency procedure to 'remodel nasal tissue' so I could breathe more easily. The doctor reminded me to make a k-k-k-k sound when squirting the NeilMed bottle to avoid getting water into the ear canals. I still use the NeilMed system as it feels good to clean out the nasal passages, especially during allergy season.
