@nycmusic My company's R&D found that most collagen powders were like throwing spaghetti to the wall hoping some will stick.

Theirs is designed to work in synergy with the body and cause it to produce more of its own collagen...that is what I chose. Mela Boost Collagen

@daisy17 I would be interested in those studies...in a chat with my product division, we could not find anything significant.

Here is a link to the study: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5793325/

It mentions the study was done with products containing Fortibone with a positive conclusion:
"2.7. Protein Supplementation
For this study, a mixture of specific bioactive collagen peptides (SCP) with a mean molecular weight of approx. 5 kDa, derived from a complex multi-step hydrolysis of collagen, was used (FORTIBONE®, GELITA AG, Eberbach, Germany). The sachets containing 5 g SCP or placebo (maltodextrin, CARGILL, Paris, France) were identical in appearance and the products were equal in flavor and texture.
Conclusions: These data demonstrate that the intake of SCP increased BMD in postmenopausal women with primary, age-related reduction of BMD. In addition, SCP supplementation was associated with a favorable shift in bone markers, indicating increased bone formation and reduced bone degradation."

@daisy17 OH! I did not know that Fortibone was collagen peptides!! Guess that is why my R&D said it was a marketing term.

And yes, we added the peptides in ours from the get go, so there must be lots of studies backing this up…because they are pretty tough to get by when it comes to claims.

Thanks - that cleared up a puzzle in my brain.

N.I.H. is a great source of info, much available online. A big help .

Agree Fortibone would be a good choice. Tested and patented. I've been taking it for about a year. My DEXA showed slight improvement in spine but still need to go on med.

and anyone interested in Collagen:
Hello to all.
I'd like to add some comments about Fortibone collagen.

Fortibone is developed by Gelita: it also offers Verisol,
Verigel, and Tendoforte which are other types of Collagen.
The study referred to in this thread was partially
funded by Gelita.

SCP means specific collagen peptides.
The study mention Gelita.

There have been other positive studies with Fortibone 1
without Gelita involvement.
Look at bottom of clinical studies for Conflict of Interest.

Peptides are another word for hydrolized, which means
processed to make it easier to consume.

Gelita does not sell directly to consumers. Different companies
package and sell this product under their own brand names.

You can write Gelita, as I have, to get a list of Brands that
have their products. The list may have changed since I
wrote many months ago. I asked specifically for Type 1.

Very few brands have only Type 1 Collagen.
There are only a handful that I've been able to find.
Many brands mix Type 1 and Type 3 Fortibone.
When buying the mixed, it is difficult to know what proportion
of Type 1 or Type 3 you are consuming in a daily scoop.

I am unaware of studies done with Type 1 and Type 3
together, and if this mix helps bone density.
Clinical tests that show improvement for bone density
were done with Type 1 only.

Interested in your input and opinions.
Thanks.

@bevlevvancouverbc
I tried to buy Gelita Fortibone for a couple of week in Europe. Could not buy it from Gelita, as they do not sell, but at the end could order it on the web site German Amazon. It came now, and I am pleased with the price, as the product and sending only costed me 31 euro.

@bevlevvancouverbc Thank you for all of that information! What are a few of the brands from the list that include Type 1 that you found helpful?

Fortibone type 1
I have not tried it yet, but expect to order from
one of these suppliers soon.

thank you Melia for information on Aportha:
that's a new name for my list.
I wonder if Amazon Germany would ship to
Canada.
If you have that link, would appreciate it.

The other names on my list are:
Regeneros...look on their website...unfortunately
they do not ship to Canada.
Their name was mentioned by Gelita.

Keith McCormick Osteonaturals:
Does not ship to Canada.
Looks like a good product.

BoneBalance in the U.K. was mentioned by someone
on MayoConnect:
BoneBalance reply was they do ship to Canada.
There is a minimum order necessary.

I've asked NBI if they would have it in the future:
waiting for an answer. But then, they may not
ship to Canada.

Haven't check Fullscript

As you see, there are not many who sell Fortibone
Type 1 only..

I would rather spend more and get the right
product, I know it is expensive with shipping.

Anyone else with ideas?

@bevlevvancouverbc I wondered if you had come across the Canadian brand of collagen Organika in your research and if you are aware of the proportions of type 1 and type 3 in this brand I get? I will look into this product further.
