Chronic migraine relief suggestions

Posted by 247pain @247pain, Dec 27, 2019

I have chronic daily migraines and have had these for many years. I’m seeing a neurologist and we’re doing Botox and other preventatives plus the new Emgality. I cannot take your normal abortives like Imitrex or Maxalt. I was prescribed Toradol injections to give myself at home, plus muscle relaxers. Well my stomach can not handle the Toradol or any NSAID anymore. Any suggestions on pain relief? I tried CBD products and they did nothing. I do ice packs and dark quiet rooms, I’m very well informed on what to do as far as that aspect. I’m just so frustrated and upset, I get these horrible migraines that last for days sometimes weeks and I have nothing at home for pain relief. I can’t go to the ER every time. I’m only 41 and migraines have ruined my life. Thanks in advance

So sorry you are suffering. Hypnosis is a powerful natural intervention for chronic pain. Best to get ok from your doc. Hypnosis is not the be all, end all "cure" but it, along with other alternative interventions is underused and undervalued. Hypnosis for pain involves helping us change how we "process" pain. I wish you healing and relief. Jan

@247pain Sorry to hear how migraine affect your life. Had migraine for 21 years, try every medication; suffered terrible side effects. Migraine took over my life, most months 25 out of 30 days. I finally found a doctor who was willing to try a different way of thinking; now on Tompiramate and Aimovig Injection and migraine has been reduce to 2-3 days a month. @247 pain I wish you luck as you try to find relief from migraines; do not give up, you will find the answer it will take time but I believe it can happen.

Words of wisdom right here and I will 2nd that. I'm in a happier migraine place also.

Took some doing but I got there and you will too @247pain. What has worked for me:

~ Botox injections every 3 months
~ Emgality monthly self injections (Aimovig stopped working)
~ Cambia (abortive powder for onset)

I wish you all the best and believe me…I feel your misery. Keep hope alive!

PS: breathing techniques, meditation, blind folds, sunglasses and ear plugs also helped me along the way.

I began migraines in my 30's but never owned them as migraines. Always felt that people tossed that word around too freely. In my 40's they debilitated me and I ended up on disability. How I lived with ice packs…at work too, didn't want to give in. Id pack my whole head and neck with ice earlier on then finally decided it was torture and started going to Urgent Care for Toradol shots.. Migraines are brutal and to this day the most painful experiences of my life. Please reach out to me anytime if you need support. 🤗

Thank you so much for your reply. Last month I had 27 migraines outta the month, I keep a migraine diary. It’s depressing to look back and see how many days were ruined. I’ve been on Topirimate and had an allergic reaction to it as well as the Aimovig injections. My body reacts differently to meds. I’m currently on 3 preventatives one of them being Emgality but so far no luck. It’s hard to believe that hope is on the horizon, migraines make you feel so alone. Thanks for listening

Could a spouse be poisoning a person to make them have migraines constantly?

Thank you. It’s so hard to keep hope alive. Day in and day out of constant pain, cancelled plans, and just depression. I can no longer work because of them. I also have been doing Botox injections and Emgality injections. I’ve heard of Cambia but it’s never been brought up by my neurologist. I appreciate your response

Im sorry you are in this mess. If you choose to mention Cambia, take note that it may be tough for insurance coverage. I get mine (as referred by my Neuro) from a mail order pharmacy in Arizona for $20.

I just wanted to say your description of having chronic migraines seemed to vividly describe the extent and depth of the suffering one suffers with this illness.

Thank you so much for being so kind and for all your helpful tips. I really appreciate that! I am on disability now because of them. I give myself Toradol shots at home but the migraines are just getting worse and we can’t find anything that helps. It’s so frustrating! I can honestly say migraines have truly ruined my life! And so isolating!

Yes, I completely agree. I always say that they steal me away…away from even just sitting with my family on the couch and being together. Seclusion, its awful.

I'm hoping you are as calm as can be via meditation, CBD, anti depressant/anxiety med, etc…Migraines take a huge toll on mind and body so be good to yourself.

Have a pleasant day.
Rachel
