Chest Discomfort/Sensation Ongoing

Posted by irupp33 @irupp33, Apr 16 8:38am

Good morning, all!
I hope this is the right group to post this if not I can move to another.
I'll try to briefly give a summary of what's going on.

38-Year-old male with no history of health issue. Generally active although moderately overweight. (6'1" 290 lbs.)

About 8 months ago I started noticing a strange "sensation" on the left side of my chest which after a few weeks of not going away led me to a general checkup and discuss this with a doctor. He ordered a general blood panel and also sent me out for a stress test. All blood work came back normal for my age and shape. Stress tests follow up didn't really reveal anything to worry about.

Best way I can describe the feeling is a tickle combined with a dull ache/pinch. It seems very localized but is there daily all throughout the day.

-Does not get worse with exercise or exertion, as a matter of fact it seemingly goes away or isn't even a thought.
-It seems to come more when I'm sitting idle maybe watching tv, sitting at my desk at work, minimal activity.
-Can sometimes replicate it by twisting or stretching but not always and when stretching it almost feels "tight" but only in that area not my entire chest.

I do feel my anxiety of focusing on it when my mind is not preoccupied might be adding to the concern.

Looking for suggestions and of course any feedback!

Hi!
First of all I have no true medical knowledge on this subject but I have a story on my husband.
He was always a walker and then he started to have “discomfort” in middle of chest when walking which subsided at rest. He was having this on a regular walking basis.
We went to cardiologist and he ordered an angiogram. ( I am not indicating you have the same thing) The angiogram indicated 3 blockages which one was his main artery which they call the widow maker!! A operation was scheduled 2 weeks later
The physician and interns present all said he was very lucky and there had not been any damage to his heart.
Thankful!!!
That was 18 yrs ago. Still Thankful!!

The middle of the chest is dangerous. I have a sensation on the left side near my left underarm.
My Cardio had a scan done for the artery below my left clavicle=negative. He thinks it is left over from my CABG. I've had it fa years. It comes and goes.

@lenmayo I should clarify it is offset to the left side. When it started, I immediately thought it was heart related.

@mphaddican thank you for the reply and yes, all my fears and worries were riddled with heart attack pending or the worst possible situations. BUT to the opposite of most mine seems to dissipate all together the more active I get including walking, biking, etc.

Great news!
Yes my husband’s only happened when he exerted himself by walking but not when he rested.
I am very happy for you!

Seems you are getting the tests you need. I am not a medical professional but have been diagnosed with heart failure since 2001. I had electrical issues with heart and have had a ICD/Pacemaker since 2006.

Your pain of discomfort going away with exercise is the opposite of what should happen if have heart issues. Not a doctor at all but have your doctors consider this being a nerve problem? But everyone is different but usually the guidance is heart pain, discomfort, increases with exertion.

I am an old guy now 79 in May. So got a lot of aches and pains that are everywhere.

Your weight being 290 is quite high.

Similar situation however, I've had bypass, over 3 dozen stents as well as a pacemaker. 3 years ago i became a hospice patient and I am now in the process of changing my status and have began weaning the morphine under the watchful eye of my Cardiac Dr and my NP. The side effects are miserable and I have little to no appetite.

I have been dignosed with renal blockage a month ago. 3 days from now I will be having a procedure to remove the blockage or put stint in. My blood pressure has been getting high for 3 years now. They just now figured out I have a blockage. The last week or so I have been getting a tightness in my left side, right under my breast. I am a 65 year old female. Have gained weight in the last year 154 at 5'4. to heavy for me. I was very active up till now. Blood pressure issues for a while now. They have done echo of the heart and EKG's and show everythings ok. I have not taken a stress test as of now. Sunday before my procedure they have me taking a steriod and benadryl. because i have had a rash one time with the imaging contrast.
I just joined this group. Hope that you are doing better.
