Check in--cheerleaders wanted
I am trying to force myself to exercise because I need it for my osteoporosis and I am finding myself getting perceptibly weaker as I age. I'm not at all sedentary; I probably walk 2-3 miles per day just getting around and do lots of household stuff as guardian of a 6 year old and 16 year old, and I'm an elementary school teacher during the year on my feet all day. While that was fine when I was younger, my body is telling me that I need to be more systematic now. I want to keep being able to do the things I love, and exercise is clearly one of the ways to do that, but I hate it.
I want to start this thread as a place to check in with the things we find hard--exercise, nutrition, human relations, whatever--and a place to cheer each other on.

Look at subcategories under the main heading Osteoporosis. There are a number of discussions concerning exercises that help with bone loss. Also melioguide.com
@janism I honestly don’t know. For me, MAYBE after I get some good results from these meds and changes, I will be better able to continue the motivation to make the changes simply part of my every day routine. That is my hope, anyway. I am waiting on a reply back from my endocrinologist as to what and when we will test since starting Tymlos for me.
One thing we KNOW from the science is that calorie restriction and trying to “be small” is terrible for our bones and leads to sarcopenia. As you increase your resistance training, getting your ( quality) protein up to 1gm per lb ideal body weight can reverse the years of loss. You WILL see and feel yourself getting stronger. This creates the desire to do more. LIFT ! EAT (clean high quality protein)!
Consider a personal trainer to help motivate! You can do this😉

2 ReactionsPersonal trainers are not cheap, but I hunted for a long time and found a gym that has five 1-hour sessions for $300. This gym allows me to schedule training different days and times and does not require every week, so this is spanning about 2 months for me. The gym itself is free for Silver Sneakers members which comes with my Medicare Advantage.
Working with the trainer on LIFTMOR style weight lifting helps. I have to stop and take my own notes about details of what she tells me. I then cross-ref the notes with videos on YouTube about the same subjects to lock in my brain what I learned. Having committed to the time and cost and anticipating the next time I see my all-to-nice personal trainer has helped my motivation.
Not sure what I will do after my first set of 5 hours is done. Definitely try to keep it up on my own.

2 ReactionsMy mantra is…Baby Steps Are OK! And they often lead to achieving bigger goals, but even if they don’t, something is better than nothing. I have learned to train for half marathons and sprint triathlons this way. Never thought I would enjoy weight lifting but the Onero program is my favorite thing to do now, and that started with lifting very light weights. Now my triathlon race times are slightly faster than last year because my back muscles and glutes are stronger. I also find that lap swimming helps strengthen my breathing and satisfy that desire for a cardio workout.

2 ReactionsI use an app called Bone-IQ which has been great for me. Also I’d recommend Brick house bones on YouTube- it’s got lots of free videos on weight bearing exercises ( from beginner to advanced) and exercises for balance.

1 Reaction@jk60 did you enroll in Kevin Ellis's The Bone Coach program? What do you think of it? Is it worth the money? I have been on the fence since my social media feed is inundated with his products. So obviously they put a lot of money into their marketing, which makes me hesitant.
@jk60 I'm going to look at the Brick House Bones channel. I've been looking for good youtube recs. Thanks.
