Cerebellar Stroke - experience/treatment/recovery

I suffered a Cerebellar Stroke in Dec 2015 in my 40s and am interested in connecting with other cerebellar stroke survivors to share our experiences, testing/therapy options, struggles on the path to recovery.

My name is Barbara and I would love to talk to someone. I had first stroke in cerebellum in July 12, 2017, then another episode feb 16, 2018. Thanks for a reply.

Sad part is, I am not sure how many of us know what depression really is or if we suffer from it. I grew up on a farm and we worked very hard all the time. Even if we got hurt or felt really sick, we worked through it no matter what, because the cows and our families relied on us to get it done. I tend to think I am just feeling sorry for myself at times and always try to remember how lucky I am compared to many others, here with Strokes or others with terrible cancers and etc.
I totally agree, Depression in itself can make people feel sicker than they should. The real question is then: How does the average person know if he or she truly has depression?? Ones state of mind can actually make depression worse, correct? The people and work environment we are all in, can even make a fair amount of difference also. In how fast one gets better, maybe?
All said and done, we have to try to be positive, for ourselves and for others! Sometimes helping others is what makes one feel better and gives purpose.

I get that! I also tell myself things could be worse when I am having negative feelings. I hate to use the term lucky (I didn't win the lottery here), maybe more fortunate than others, always somebody dealing with bigger challenges than I am. That being said. life has changed. I still get up every morning and check to see if the room is spinning before getting out of bed. My right hand is still a little off causing me to concentrate a little more on those things that I use it for. I have been playing guitar since my teens but have spent almost every day during the last 10 months relearning how to hold and grasp a pick, learning how to keep a beat with my strumming hand, finding the right string when picking, and so on. All of those things that I never had to think about in the past. The thing that keeps me going today is I am a little better than yesterday. Yesterday is a whole lot better than last January. Keep focusing on the positives and hopefully I will someday be close to 100% normal again.

@barbarajean100 sorry to hear that you experienced another stroke. Was it also in the cerebellum?

I posted a couple of months ago because my husband suffered a PICA stroke. We are very lucky that it did not affect him much physically. The mental effects are there- and he's going to be seeing a neuropsychologist.

I'd like to ask if any of you made lifestyle changes after your stroke, and if you noticed the differences in your well-being. We want very much to avoid a reoccurence here!

Dear @hammond99,
My Stroke happened on 05/04/01! I also had to learn how to do everything with my non-dominant hand; as I wrote, ate, etcetera with my left hand; and my Stroke was n the right side of my Brain, so It has frankly , taken me 17 years to relearn everything! I know how lonely and depressing one can feel after a Stroke; however, the bright side, is that you are ALIVE!!!!! I also still experience Vertigo, because I have left ear infections, which throws off my balance, but I have also learned to accept and move forward, no matter the obstacles! It's hard for me to have not earned any money in 17 years, and to depend on the lousy , good for nothing benefits from our Government; which they keep threatening to take away! I have learned to speak up, am writing a book about coming back from my Stroke, and am also staying positive! I used to love playing the piano, teaching preschool, and not being exhausted in the afternoons; however, I have learned to compensate now and have been involved in many Stroke Support Groups, and am in 2 Youtube Videos from my Stroke Camp in Ashland, MA from the Faulkner Hospital Stroke Support Group! I am therefore choosing to participate in life and keep focusing on the things I am able to accomplish daily, by writing 3 things, that were positive or good in my journal every single day! I hope you also look at your daily accomplishments and keep up the positive attitude! I also use Meditation, Yoga, Qui Gong, and other classes to keep my mind and body healthy! I have also decided to cut out sugar, wheat, and other foods, which contribute to so many Physical ailments!

I have just recently had 2 strokes in my cerebellum about 4-5 weeks ago. The only complication that I have is hat lingers is dizziness and boy is it terrible. I’m. 44 years old and no health issues up until this....no smoking, alcohol or any of the other factors. I want so bad to get back to my old self! I have gone thru inpatient therapy and currently have home healthcoming out.everyone says the brain s “plastic”. And it will heal over time me because I’m young,

I do/did not have dizziness too bad, at least to the point where it affected my day to day so much, more getting back my motor skills with my right side. The thing for me is I found everything gets better over time and with work (rehab). I continue to work at those things that still are not as easy as pre-stroke 11 months later. Getting close, but still am not my old self, not sure what the new norm will be. Be patient and focus on the gains you make!

I had a left hemisphere cerebellum stroke on 8/1/2018. I’m a 56 year old male in good health. I did have a history of headaches before the stroke maybe one migraine every other month. However, post stroke, I have migraines pretty much 24/7 now. Anyone else experiencing post stroke headaches. My Neurologist is triying different med’s but nothing seems to work.

Hi @kweber and welcome to Connect. Those migraines sound awful.

I wanted to tag fellow members @rachelanne @hammondm99 and @livetheday as they have all suffered strokes and may be able to sympathize with your post-stroke migraines.

Back to you @kweber, how do these migraines affect you during the day? Are you able to do any of your normal activities?

I had a fair amount of headaches before my stroke, but I don't think I had migraine headaches. Whatever they were it was much worse after the stroke. I was fine sleeping, but as soon as I opened my eyes in the am and sat up, my head started a dull pounding.
As I said in previous post, the Propanonal seemed to help me have not tried to quit it
