C. difficile -are your guts ever normal again ?

Does anyone know any body that has recovered from c.diff (guts back to pre-c.diff status ) . I have been negative for a year and still have bloating every time I eat anything and sporadic diarrhea. I need maternity clothing to eat and be comfortable. I have 0 appetite since I was initially infected.I am on creon 36,000 . this helps some what with bloating,I take papya&pineapple enzymes not helping, and floraster 2xday not sure about that.I have tried the FODMAP diet, I avoid many foods on that diet. I am seeing an RD, just finished an elimination diet with her. If I eat I bloat there for I am. Bottom line…are my guts ruined forever ?

@danab

My Gastro Dr also mentioned Amoxicillin. I take it for dental work but he said a one day use should be fine.

I don't test it, if he says a one day use should be fine, its not fine with me lol. Cdiff is too gross to even test it. My guts are to testy.. No thank you

Well, I tested positive again, which doesn’t surprise me as the test was taken the day after I started my second round of higher dose vanco. Still have a week to go on this round. Things have gotten better bowel wise, so I’m hoping I can take a break from this.

Mentally, I’m so over this. Being kept in the house this long is driving me crazy. The constant gloves, Clorox wipes and bleach is affecting me too— I’m a pariah!

My next gastro appointment is Wednesday. I’m sure she’ll want another test.

Ugh, I am so sorry!! Anything that is even close to causing cdiff, goes right on my allergy list. I don't care if I have never had a reaction before, it goes there. Do you where Adult pull-ups lol?

I have stock in those suckers now lol… One in each closet in the house lol, no just kidding but I do have lots of them now. I got sick of wasting undies.

Here is the list of high risk antibiotics given to me by my GI doctor. It was Augmentin that got me. It is amazing that doctors are still prescribing these to people like me who have risk factors for C. Diff ( like I am 75 and have exposure to hospitals germs).

clindyamycin
amoxycillin
amoxycillin -clavulnanate (augmentin, GlaxoSmithKline)
floraquinalons
cephalosporins, 2nd and 3rd generation
azithromycin
erythromycin

Well. At least one im already allergic to erthromycin. And yes i do have bries available but not needed yet. I was in the hosp when i had mine and the bathroom was a few feet away. I dread having it at home the bathroom is not very close most of the time. Plus stairs and carpet.

@annapocono I got Cdiff two weeks after taking Clindamycin. I was prescribed it for 14 days for my 4th sinus infection. NEVER again. I had also taken a Zpack after my 2nd sinus infection. Thank the good Lord I got through last winter without getting a sinus infection. Praying this winter goes as well as last. My last and 4th bout of Cdiff was last October. I've made it almost a year. I had a heck of a time getting rid of it. So thankful that Dificid worked as Flagyl and two RX's for Vancomycin both couldn't touch that dreadful spore.

So, does anyone have an idea of what medication you will take if you need an antibiotic for an infection? The thought of getting sick this winter terrorizes me! I have been okay since my fmt back in March, but that was after 6 months of relapsing over and over again. The anxiety of getting cdiff again makes me lose my breath.

Well one i was on was Bactrim for a lung infection but due to blood count issues they are switching me to a once a month inhalat called Pentamidine. It attacks the virus directly in the lungs. So it won't affect the blood stream. This is preventive but also should not cause cdif. I haven't started yet but we will see.

it has been five years since I had a fecal transplant after having cdiff four times and my gut has never been the same, daily bloated and dirarrea. I have taken the florastor all these years and avoided antibiotics til this week and now I have to take them and am scared the cdiff will come back again so doubled the florastor. I have SIBO, diverticulitis, hiatal hernia, GERD and Barretts. The cod put me on a diet of eating just about nothing but it makes no difference.

So sorry I still have bowel issues plus leaking from rectum after have bowel movements totally awful and rectal discomfort. I don’t think you ever get back to normal. So depressing

I am taking three days of microbid and praying a lot. I got cdiff from taking all the other antibiotics for a sinus infection til I passed out in the docs office and she called an ambulance. Couldn't get rid of it til a doc did the fecal transplant and my gut never healed and he has scared me so much I am surprised I eat anything. He does everything with a diet, well good luck with that.

Oh my goodness, I am so sorry you have Cdiff. The worse possible thing you can have. I had it back in 2011 for a year, they obviously didn't know how to treat it then or maybe just in my local hospital which is very possible.. I had it again just a few months ago, apparently Keflex is an antibiotic that wakes it up when it is lying dormant. DO NOT HAVE KEFLEX, REMEMBER THAT OR WRITE It DOWN SOMEWHERE!! Vanco is the best anti that they have now and it cleared me up in a week and a half but I had to stay in the hospital for that week and a half, ugh!!!. I wish you the best. Awful!!!
