Blood pressure meds and side effects

My doctor prescribed Lisinopril 40mg, Amlodipine 10mg and Metoprolol 50mg since March 2025. Side effects are for me diaharra every couple of days, ankle swelling, bad sleep and dreams, very sleepy during the day to the point I'm so tired, depressed and frustrated. Doctor says no real worry but I am to the point I'm thinking of cutting Metoprolol in half and maybe even Amlodipine in half. Doctor doesn't seem to help figure out how to fix my anxiety over the side effects.

@robal19 Amlidopine, Hydralazine, Valsartan and a Clonodine Patch are the meds currently

@dcody I agree and I always look-up any new medicine. My cardiologist told me to stop reading about them because she was an expert. I'm sure she thinks I tell her I have all the reactions to meds that I see listed for them. That is so not true. I'm on four BP meds and a patch. Now they are going to scan my kidneys for artery blockage.

GOOD FOR YOU. I ALSO LOOK UP ALL MEDICATIONS. IT IS AMAZING WHAT YOU CAN LEARN ABOUT DRUGS WHEN YOU TAKE THE TIME TO EDUCATE YOURSELF. I HAVE FOUND THAT I GET THE MOST ACCURATE INFORMATION FROM MY DRUGGEST. HER INFORMATION ALMOST ALWAYS AGREES WITH WHAT I FIND ON THE INTERNET. DRUGGESTS HAVE TO RENEW THEIR LICENSE EVERY 3-5 YEARS. I DON'T THINK MDS ARE UNDER THE SAME RULES. MAKES ME WONDER WHO IS THE MOST KNOWLEDGEABLE. I AM 86 AND TAKE ONLY ONE PERSCRIPTION. I HAVE HAD REACTIONS TO MOST OF THE DRUGS GIVEN TO ME BY MDS. SO I CHECK BEFORE I TAKE ANYTHING NEW.

May I ask you If your Amlodipine cause you to have stomach cramps and diarrhea? Been on it for 2 years and have had these symptoms every day. About 4 times a day or more? Thank you

@lilymae2008 This is an older thread but I'll respond. I've been on 2.5mg Amlodipine January-March then 5mg after that, then added in olmesartan couple of weeks ago. On the 5mg I had lightheadedness at times, with the olmesartan I too experienced diahrrhea and extreme nausea and lightheadedness like I've never experienced in my life -the nausea and lightheaded. Went off Olmesartan last Wednesday but the lightheadedness and nausea persisted days later -seems to be triggered by needing to use the bathroom " alot" even if normal then the nausea. As of yesterday I've also stopped the amlodipine -can't take it -I eliminated coffee last few days as that seemed to exacerbate the stomach issues (been drinking morning coffee for many years with some irritation at times but nothing like this) - so I'll see what doc gives next. If you're still active I hope you're doing better and of course welcome other comments. These extreme side effects were scary and stressful.

I've been taking Lisinopril for several years with very good results.
