Taking apixaban (Eliquis): Any foods or supplements to avoid?

Morning,
I’m taking Apixaban 5mg twice a day and I was wondering if there is any food or vitamins that I can’t take while I’m in that medication.

I've been on Apixaban for the past 3 years and i'm fine. The only real question was about the food and the supplements because when i'm asking questions here in Canada, i'm getting so many different answers.

I need to take proteine shake every morning. Can you please recommend some that i can take while keeping in mind that I take the Apixaban.

Hi @patrizio, I added your question to the Heart & Blood Health group as well as there are several members talking about apixaban (Eliquis) and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) there too, like @johnbishop @katgob @heidi2020 @st1300 and others.

You mention that you need to take a protein shake every morning. Are you concerned that the protein shake may contain something contrindicated with apixaban? You could talk with your pharmacist. They are knowledgeable and easily accessible members of your health care team. They know a lot about drug and supplement interactions.

Hi @patrizio, I take Eliquis (apixaban) 5 mg every morning and evening for a DVT I had about 4 months ago. I usually drink a protein shake every day in the late morning. I wasn't aware of any problems drinking a protein shake if you are on apixaban. I did find some information on a pharmacist site on the topic.

The article mentions Boost and Ensure but I like ones that are lower in calories, sugar and carbs like Premier Protein. My favorite is their Cafe Latte which has 30g protein, 5g Tot Carbs, and 1g sugar.
