Anyone have Squamous cell cancer and where?

Posted by metermaidman @metermaidman, Sep 26, 2025

I have a lesion on my left side of my face just below my ear. Does surgery help or is there a medical cream I can use to avoid surgery?

@kauger1729 How did the procedure go for you? How are you feeling today?

@gingerw Hi! Everything went as well as I could hope for! The doctor got clear margins after the first stage. He used an easy West flap to close it up. Lots of stitches. I changed the dressing today and it feels like a bee stung my nose. I go back Wednesday to get stitches out and get it checked. Hopefully it all heals well. Thank you for checking in. ❤️‍🩹

@kauger1729 I know you will feel self-conscious for a while. But following his direction, you're going to be fine. Yeah for cleared margins on the first pass! When I had MOHS for my nose, I joked they should just add a piercing at the surgery site 🙃

Great that it was clear after first stage. Take care and happy healing.

Saw 2 doctors: One suggested both chemo & radiation. The other said only radiation for 3-4 weeks & gave lots of information re: statistics on my type of cancer from different well-known cancer groups. Will consider all info and decide over the weekend but leaning towards radiation only.

What has your doctor told you? My husband has had several lesions removed through the years. His scars are minimal. The sooner you deal with it the better. Go every 6 months or more often if that is what your doctor tells you.

metermaidman, surgery can resolve squamous cell cancer and there are different types of creams.

@gently Surgery and creams can help squamous cells but it doesn’t permanently resolve the cancer. I’ve had chemo creams, frozen off, and MOHS surgery on my squamous cells on my feet and legs. It keeps returning. I’ve had two Mayo oncologists tell me I’ll “be chasing it the rest of my life”.

@lips702: I have also had SCCs but I’ve never treated with Capecitabine. However, I’d strongly advise you to contact your medical provider about the side effect you’re experiencing to see what their professional recommendation is. Can you let me know what they say?

@grammato3
Hello,
I was taken off all cancer meds now 2 months.
I am going to an oncologist here in Las Vegas that specializes in melanoma.
When he saw the condition of my legs from over 20 Mohs surgeries and new lesions on my legs we decided I will be infused with a newer drug, UNLOXCYT, it is suppose to target squamous cell carcinoma.
The drug is every 3 weeks for 1 hour.
I am looking forward, hopefully this will work with minimum side effects.

@jmglkn, thank you for this is important information. Radiation treatment SRT is said to be 90 to 100% successful.
