Have you had your inhaler misfire?
I’ve been on Breyna (generic Symbicort) for a few months now. I take 2 puffs twice a day. Lately, when I get to the last 30 puffs or so, it starts to misfire. I use a transparent spacer so I can see that nothing comes out when I press the canister down but the counter still counts down. It happens about 1 in 3 or 4 actuations. The inhaler is supposed to last for 30 days so I’m afraid It’ll run out before the month. Will the pharmacy rectify this problem? Thanks for any advice.

I have accidentally used my inhaler when it was empty a few times. Yup, my breathing was temporarily worse. Now many of my inhalers don’t function when they’re empty so I don’t do that any more Haha!
When I have a misfiring inhaler, I take it back to the pharmacy and they give me a new one at no charge & return it to manufacturer for me.
I had such trouble with Breztri not dispensing properly and went back to Trelegy.
Unfortunately, this has become a problem with several of the steroid inhalers - either by themself or as a combination medication. You must contact the manufacturer - and at least they will have enough people who report this - so providers and patients will know this is a known possibility. It is a waste of time/money, but more importantly, if you are on it as a maintenance medication, can cause terrible effects on your health. What is the point of taking an inhaler which cannot help, due to not distributing the medication? Good luck.
My Pharmacy says the misfired inhalers make their way back to the source, as they return them to the distributor for a credit - which they receive in the form of a free replacement, in effect reporting the problem. The manufacturers are well aware of the issue - that is why the package says to store them in an upright position.
I use Qvar and it misfires a lot, especially when it gets down to the last 30 doses, sometimes nothing comes out. I really dislike the way it is being delivered now. I used to be able to use a spacer when it was in a push button presentation. Now you have to inhale deeply right from the device. I feel like I get less medicine. I really wish they wouldn't fix what isn't broken.
Oh goodness, I was on a first name bases for the A’trznca product division. Willing to replace, but not the ease of just returning to pharmacy.
Thanks for your comment. I jumped through hoops with Mylan/Viatris for their defective Breyna (Symbicort) inhaler but never did get an offer for a replacement.
Beclomethasone also comes in a metered dose inhaler called Beclovent and I think a generic as well. Maybe you can ask your doctor to substitute one of those
I did but it was not easy
@juliawb - what happened that was not easy with getting the defective inhaler replaced?
