Have you had your inhaler misfire?

Posted by britelite @britelite, Dec 10, 2024

I’ve been on Breyna (generic Symbicort) for a few months now. I take 2 puffs twice a day. Lately, when I get to the last 30 puffs or so, it starts to misfire. I use a transparent spacer so I can see that nothing comes out when I press the canister down but the counter still counts down. It happens about 1 in 3 or 4 actuations. The inhaler is supposed to last for 30 days so I’m afraid It’ll run out before the month. Will the pharmacy rectify this problem? Thanks for any advice.

I have accidentally used my inhaler when it was empty a few times. Yup, my breathing was temporarily worse. Now many of my inhalers don’t function when they’re empty so I don’t do that any more Haha!

When I have a misfiring inhaler, I take it back to the pharmacy and they give me a new one at no charge & return it to manufacturer for me.

I've done that before, too, @hicopd, and used my inhaler accidentally when it was empty. Oops. Not terribly effective that way.

Oh, to some it will sound most reasonable. Take photos of the malfunctioning inhaler and emailing photos, filling out numerous pieces of documentation, mailing malfunctions back and dealing with very resistant pharmacy in replacing. Oh, and lots of time on the phone with very courteous customer service folks. I did this three times over two years. These products are expensive and essential for my health and so perhaps I am a bit reactive.
