Anxiety and Acid Reflux anyone?

Posted by vsby @vsby, Oct 12, 2023

I have anxiety that started 18 months ago never had it before in my life. About a year ago I started to develop acid reflux and it’s just getting worse. Anyone else have that problem. Doctors just keep throwing medication at me and they’ll make me sick I don’t think I’m alone.

About 25 years ago, I found I was in a cycle like that.

It was terrible; I would wake up with panic attacks so bad I thought I was dying. Once I aspirated stomach acid in my sleep. Gross and painful, acid burning in my lungs.

To make a long story short, I learned I had severe very sleep apnea. Once I got a CPAP, I slept much, much better, and the acid reflux vanished. Anxiety mostly went away, too. Changed my life.

I'm not saying that your problem is like mine, but if you're not getting relief, the trouble may lie elsewhere.

You are not alone. The exact same thing happened to me. I am going to Mayo next week to see what I can learn.

Hi
I am in canada so no mayo here. Just in line for all kinds of tests and specialists.

What are your symptoms?

Let us know what you learn if you are comfortable. Thanks and good luck

I am seeing a variety of specialists. In canada so it can take a while as it’s not urgent, to them.
No answers yet. I don’t have sleep apnea did a sleep test.

The anxiety is so painful in my body. My arms burn and the stomach acid. Last night was so awful then I get Leary of what to eat.
I have lost 20 pounds and do not need to lose weight.

Have you considered something like Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) -- acupuncture, etc.?

Or something like Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), aka Tapping? There are lots of YouTube videos that might help and wouldn't cost a dime. Might be worth a try.

Trying tapping. Eh. I do meditation every day several times a day

Right now I’m on too much medication to mix it up with anything else we won’t know what’s helping I need a colonoscopy and an endoscopy

Mid June I woke up with terrible anxiety and then eventually burning in my stomach. I very much believe it is depression trigured by an ulcer. I take no meds and all of my blood work and ultrasound and exams came vack normal. I still feel a light burning and pinching in my gut but I went on a totally bland diet, bananaa, applesauce, rice and protien drinks for energy. The depression seems to be better, the stomach feels better but it has been 4 months of a lot of crying and sadness. Exercise/ which is walking for me and reaching out for support from a couple family members has been very helpful but not easy. I feel so much more compassion now for people who suffer anxiety and depression. I never had the understanding of what people went thru until know. Prayer was probably my biggest savior! That and just gerting out amongst people.

Yes I totally agree the compassion for other and for yourself too!!

Today heart burn/acid reflux like crazy. It will pass.

I don’t even energy yet to shower! And I will.

Depression and anxiety is a journey and when I remember I know I come
Out on top however in the midst of its tough.

Good for you for staying away from meds. I am stomach meds as a small tiny bit of anti anxiety that I am not sure is doing anything. New I have insomnia now after 3:30 am.
This not the Susie of the past. Don’t you find your self to feel really different?
