Ambien

Posted by triciaann99 @triciaann99, Sep 14, 2024

I have been on 10 mg of Ambien for about 10 years and honestly, it’s something that I look forward to every night so I can get some sleep and peace of mind. It is controlling my life and there are days when I run out and I don’t sleep. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same experience, and they were able to recover from it. Thank you.

I don't see how your insurance company can keep you from filling a script if you are willing to pay for it. You could ask your doc for a script for 10 mgs (and break in half) which would give you twice as long covered by insurance. But also, talk to your drugstore about filling the script you have. My insurance won't cover mine for every month but I can pay for it and have it filled.

@degarden_girl same here, my Medicare insurance will only cover a certain amount of months of Ambien, but my local pharmacy will let me pay for the Rx - And it’s not very expensive with their discount

I have been using Ambien close to ten years. It’s worked very well for me. I use a 10mg dose. It’s inexpensive and easy to get renewed. I’ll be reviewing Ambien CR, which is a slow release version that maybe more effective.

@jwschmidt22 I took 5 mg Ambien for over 15 years and then the summer it stopped working. It’s been a three month break while I’m taking lorazepam, but I’m going to talk to my doctor about trying it again.
When I first started taking it, I could take a quarter tablet and it worked fine; then it became a half, And an additional nibble if I was wakeful in the middle of the night.

@berekann I think a 3 month break is more than sufficient to get your body ready to accept a low dose of ambien again .Good luck. I just went through hip replacement and suddenly I am finding the 1/3 to 1/2 of a 10 MG tablet is not sufficient. Probably has something to do with the drugs I was taking after the surgery. I am planning a week's break from ambien and see how I make out.

I so envy people who can easily go to sleep and stay asleep. My insomnia began with menopause and it has not let up.

@degarden_girl thank you! The pharmacist thinks it will be sufficient, and a friend is willing to give me one of her Ambien so I can at least try it again. It didn’t work again after three weeks off of it so I’m hoping three months will do the trick. And yes, it stopped working when I took nine days worth of Flagyl and Cipro. Amazing how drugs can affect our bodies,
Good luck to you too!! sleep is so important

@berekann What's your dose of Lorazepam?

@blueskies1530 at bedtime .5mg, and I can take a second tablet if needed. Lately I’ve been taking 1.5mg melatonin, with .25mg or .5mg Lorazepam later if needed. Sleeping better and longer than with just the Lorazepam.

Hi there I took ambien for longer close to twenty years. I looked forward to being able to sleep. I enjoyed the relaxed feeling I had every time I took it but having to rely on it every night I decided to stop taking it. It’s been 5 months since I stopped, now I can fall asleep. I take calcium and magnesium supplements every night no coffee or alcohol at night. It’s a lovely feeling to fall asleep naturally. I do a few hours of exercise a day maybe take Melatonin if needed.
