Alzheimers and lost time
Some of you probably can relate to this. My husband has Alzheimer's. He was diagnosed 6 months ago but he is considered in the moderate stage.
I asked him "Honey, why are you constantly wanting to kiss me?" and he said, "I am so glad that you are back because you were gone for so many years."
We have been married for over 50 years and we have never been apart. This disease is very perplexing.

1 ReactionYes, this disease is so perplexing. It's mind-boggling to me what my husband seems to remember but lacks follow through on working through a question, helping resolve a problem or issue. For me, that's the most frightening, left to figure it out. I sit here at 5 a.m. this morning, questioning whether the lequembe infusions are working. I know others on this site also have partners doing lequembe. Have you seen any results, more clarity in thinking, etc?, My husband is into his 8th infusion. Also, my husband loves his "sugar" desserts at night, and I'm reading that sugar isn't good for people with MCI - a wholesome Mediterranean diet is. Thanks for sharing.

2 Reactions@kjc48 We're one week away from meeting with a 2nd neurologist to discuss Leqembi. My LO is stage 4+ and has one Apoe4 gene so that makes brain bleeds more likely. At this stage her short term memory is significantly affected. She loves sugar! We used to drink a lot of water. About a year ago she started drinking nothing but sweet ice tea or fruit juices and likes hard candy. Apparently that is an undesirable side affect. She is in denial that she has memory problems even though she sits in the neurologists office when various results and medications are being discussed. In addition to memantine and donepezil she and I started taking 12 mg lithium orotate last Aug. Unfortunately there's no way to measure if any of this stuff helps.
@longboat1 I appreciate your note back. The whole thing is so devastating. my husband also has the APOe4 gene. however, at this time, with the 8th infusion, he's had I think 4 MRI' in between, and no brain swelling or bleeding has been detected, so he's been continuing on with the lequembe. I'm not sure it's helping, but then I don't know what I don't know. I just know that any sugar is supposed to be bad for them. But it's so hard to break bad habits......My husband is on Cerefolin, that brain health supplement, per his neurologist. Good luck with your 2nd neurologist opinion. And thanks again for sharing.
Years ago, I noticed on my weekly visit to my parents that my mom had developed an incredible desire for sweets. This was very different than in the past. When I mentioned it to my dad, he thought it was the Aricept she was taking. It isn't scientific, but it was the only change.
