Acid reflux: Anyone out there?
Anyone out there? I have this bad. But also have been throwing up and diarrhea. Am trying to find out what causes the second situation. Thanks. T in Pinehurst NV

I have had severe acid reflux for years. I take Nexium, and with a few exceptions avoid all citrus foods, coffee, spicy and fried foods. Cheat and eat chocolate maybe twice a week. Do not drink liquor, an occasional champagne. Never smoked.
Have had ulcers and an esophagus motility problem . Now also taking Sucralfate tablets that I mix with water. Less expensive than liquid form to coat my stomach one-half hour before taking Nexium before meals.
I am experiencing very loose bowel movements very shortly after eating.
I eat Greek Yogurt, drink Dan Active, and today started taking ALIGN,
a pro-biotic. Hope this helps curtail bowel movements. I can only take Tylenol for any kind of pain or I develop Ulcers .
Good luck
I had all the similiar problems for over a year. It came down to 2 things: I had a non functioning gall bladder that was found on a hydascan then surgery to remove it, also a gluten intolerance. After changing my diet and surgery I am 90% better. I am using digestive supplements to manage not having a gall bladder and that is still a work in progress. The reflux meds did not work for me.
Have you ever been screened for Celiac disease.? Your symptoms are common celiac symptoms . Your family Dr or a GI Dr could order the celiac panel blood tests.
They tell me that reflux is one of my causes for pneumonia and ashma
I never thought of that. Does it work for you?
Bless you! With all this going on I'll throw in a few Hail Mary's and I'm not even catholic! My husband has esophageal cancer and it started out yrs. ago with a hiatial hernia surgery, and episodes of acid indigestion. After an exam and many EGD's the Dr. called it Barretts Disease. Now this is where things get worse. About a yr. ago he was tested and he had a tumor in the wall of the esophogus. He's had chemo and radiation, but we found out just yesterday it can't be safely removed due to his engourged veins. That being our medical problems, I'm just here to ask any and all who deal with ongoing indigestion to be tested as often as they can for this cancer. It's a very bad one to be rid of and if you catch it early you can add days and hopefully years to your life span.
I have acid reflux so bad it is coming up into my sinuses. I was only taking one Nexium (40mg) and then the Gastro added Raniditine (300) mg at night. I have started cutting them in half and it is getting better, but my sinuses and throat hurt all the time. My stomach is upset, and I have explosive gas. I've elevated my head at night. How can I get this to settle down?
Hi @robbinr,
My apologies for the tardy reply. Your message slipped passed me. My husband has had acid reflux since he was 14. It doesn't sound as severe as yours however. I can't imagine.
I'm tagging @hardclose @lizann as they may be able to share some insights with you.

How long has it been since you added Raniditine? Is it starting to settle now?
Make sure you don't eat for two hours (or more) before bed. No tight waist
band or bending. I took Nexium 24 hr but didn't get 24 hour relief so
went to 1 every 12 hours. That really helped. Dr. told me it only lasted
about 18 hours and I tried taking it in morning or night but I had several
hours of problems. Have doctor check your diet and other meds you take
for cause.
A friend commented to me yesterday that her doctor advised her to take Gaviscon or similar medication instead of increasing the dosage of potentially harmful acid reduction drugs. I had increased Prilosec 40mgms in am to an additional 40mgms at night per order of my GI doctor. I still have reflux after several weeks of added dose and now my leg cramps have increased from the increased dosage. I am going to try the Gaviscon advice and will let you know if it works. Some things work for some people and not others.
