@sakota I think your friend's best bet is to contact Mayo directly, by phone. They will talk to her about having her records sent and setting up any appointments. I believe they try to have multiple appointments scheduled for the same day. If surgical repair of the aneurysm is not a good idea for your friend, they may consider the stent procedure. I am sorry your friend is experiencing such health problems and that her husband will be seeking treatment for his health issue at the same time. My feeling is that although it seems easier to just let it go, the possibility is that she has many good years ahead of her if the aneurysm is controlled.

I don't know where you live and how long a trip it is to get to Mayo but it is worth a phone call, especially as they may refer your friend to a closer medical facility.

Do you have to have an MRI to get a cortisone shot in your back for back pain?

I think but not positive that
I did. Now when I have a shot they X-ray it while giving the shot so they k ow exactly where to give it so you get the best benefit. I have spinal stenosis in the lower back. I would call the clinic or where they give the shots and ask them. I go to pain clinic Good luck

I would think yes because I would not want the accidental poke wt the site of damage.

How are you doing now? I have just been diagnosed on a CAT scan with a 4cm Ascending aortic aneurysm near the aortic root. There’s other things going on with me as far as a Recent colon polyp resection, And I am awaiting that final biopsy! So many things discovered with the CT scans!. So right now for me the aneurysm seems like something that is watch and wait they could go on for years. Funny because I’ve always been bicycling walking eating well. I’m not the least bit overweight, and do not smoke. It’s all in the reality of this time here on earth our DNA, and also our emotional direction that has a good deal of say and what we manifest physically, I believe.

@sakota If your friend needs repair but is not ready for the open chest surgery, she should definitely talk to her cardio about the non-invasive insertion of the stent in the artery. I suspect that requires little down time. I wonder what size her AAA is and how fast it is growing. I'm 74 in January and I hope to die from some unrelated issue in about 20 years or more. Or, if the AAA blows, so be it. It would be a fast way to go and hopefully without nursing home residence in the mix.

I like your attitude:future of 20 years of living joyfully and yet accepting a transformation that is sudden and causes least hardship. However consider that even if there is nursing care because of a illness, that is allowing others to express their kindness and allowing them to grow in compassion
