Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?

Posted by 43219876x @43219876x, Sep 23, 2016

I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

The best temporary relief I have had in my 18 month 2007/2008 and current 26 month outbreaks was from Eucerin Itch Relief. Tried cilantro and chlorella capsules for 5 months with no success. I attributed 13 years itch relief to 300 mg of Gabapentin every night but it just quit working 26 months ago, but it could have just been the "transient" part of this curse.

Do you feel like there were any specific triggers that brought it back this time? Heat? Sweat? Or perhaps you are right about the transient part being over. Thanks for sharing about Eucerin Itch Relief.

I have no idea why it started up again. I was first diagnosed in 1992 via a punch biopsy but did not itch until January 2007. I retired in November 2006 and had a sudden reduction in stress and moved to a slightly different climate. I also have numerous Seborrheic Keratoses (started in my late 30s) and have had 8 or 10 basal cell carcinomas and one major melanoma in 1992. Acne screwed up my teenage years. I took the Gabapentin every night for 13 years and thought I had taken care of the itch. Not so much. People taking higher doses of Gabapentin seem to have lots of problems. I had no problems at all.
Right now I'm getting over covid and the remaining cough is interrupting my typing. Good luck.

Hello everyone, I’m still drinking a cilantro smoothie with about 1 cup packed organic cilantro in water, and taking 6 (500mg) Chlorella tablets daily. I’m so much better it’s incredible. I really can hardly believe it. I’ve gone from feeling miserable and sometimes desperate from lack of sleep, and the insanely itchy— bleeding rash….to almost complete relief. I would say I’m 90% healed. I still feel some slight itchiness mostly at night, or right after I get up, but I don’t need to scratch. I apply Eucerin itch relief or Burt’s bees diaper cream and feel relief. My rash has mostly dried up. I’m going to Mexico over the holidays and am nervous about how I’ll do in the heat. Will my rash fire back up? I’ve bought cilantro capsules for the trip….we will see how it goes. I told my dermatologist about cilantro and she was not interested but said “I guess it can’t hurt you”. I’m going to see a new primary care MD that is more holistic, and she is very interested! She says that cilantro helps the body detoxify and can chelate heavy metals. She was surprised at how quickly it seemed to help me, and ordered lab work, testing me for metals. We are curious about my levels and to see if they go down as I continue ingesting cilantro. I wish I had tested my blood a month ago as I started the cilantro. I’ll report on this to the group. I’m now part of a 1 person study. Ha! Anyway, I attribute my healing to this finding this group and the changes I made after learning from you all. I know cilantro isn’t helpful to everyone and I wish it was! I’m on a journey with my skin. I realize this isn’t a cure, but for now I’m feeling good and am incredible grateful. Thanks especially to @gardeningjunkie and others who continue to post, and answer questions in an effort to help others. You are wonderful!

I'm so so very happy that cilantro worked for you too.
Spreading the word to others is what we need to do because like me and others you've learned most doctors, even dermatologists, are not interested.
I sure would like to learn what your results are on your blood test for metals. We are forced to learn from fellow suffers since doctors can offer no help with this disease.
About a year after I did the cilantro detox and followed up with a few cilantro smoothies monthly I was scheduled for knee replacement. The surgery was canceled because the blood test I demanded and had to pay for personally because Medicare wouldn't cover cost me $600.00 showed positive allergies to 6 metals. I don't know if it tested for metal levels; I should have thought to ask I have no idea if metal allergies are tied to GD, but heavy metals in the body have been.
Hopefully your remission is long lasting like mine and others.

Amazing that you thought to demand that blood test for sensitivity to metals. After the results of the blood test, did your surgeon agree that knee replacement wasn't a good idea, or did you decide that on your own? Im just curious to know if they validated or disagreed with you. I hope you aren’t in a lot of pain from your knee!

I have been continuing to use tea tree oil skin creme made by Earthly Body to manage my Grover’s Disease. It has gone about 90% away and totally gets rid of the itch. I started using it twice a day for two weeks but then switched to 2-3 times per week after it mostly cleared up. I really thinks this works better than anything your doctor could prescribe.

Congratulations on finding something that works for you. So little is known about this miserable disease that we are left on our own, essentially, to find our own ways of dealing with it. A friend of mine saw a derm who recommended Zostrix for something unrelated to GD. Its a pain reliever with Capsaicin in it. I figured why not give it a try? Lo and behold it actually stops the itching for hours and my rash is disappearing little by little. You just never know.

Does anyone know if blue light therapy is the same as a tanning salon?
