Insomnia, depression, anxiety

Posted by azkidney57 @azkidney57, Jan 11, 2020

So here I am it’s 4 am I have been awake since 3 am I often wake up. I can’t go back to sleep. I can’t text my friends I could be they would ask why I was texting so early. I tried my usual sleepy time tea, Clonazepam, deep breathing etc etc and I still wake up! I remember when I was I in the hospital I would call the nurse and I would have morphine injected into my IV port and that would help me sleep. I can’t have morphine. OxyContin also made me sleepy. Can’t have that anymore I ran out. It would be so nice if I could get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. Maybe someday.

Morning, maybe this will help. I have Cutaneous Lupus. I have had it for a number of years. I will not bore you with the details. When it ‘flares’ it is not pleasant. What I’ve found is taking a hot bath with Epsom salts is really helpful in soothing the itching and allowing me ‘to SLEEP’. Try it out.

Namaste

I take Ambien (low dose) and it has been a miracle for me. I was diagnosed with glioblastoma 6 years ago and suffer from depression and anxiety. I also just started this app called Aura which provides a mindfulness coach, meditations and music. It is really helping.

just now reading this post on Nov 1, 2023, I am sorry for your development of glioblastoma. I have been concerned about research findings re: zolpidem . Have been in touch with main researcher , Dr. Daniel Kripke, California. I will not summarize his findings here as I may not be accurately interpreting the implications re: ambien/zolpidem. But his research may be of interest to you. Wish you well truly.

Mirtazapine and Trazodone are sleep inducing medications. See a psychiatrist regarding your symptoms if you have not already done so

Trazodone is a miracle for me. I only need 1/2 of a pill and usually within 15 minutes I'm out like a light. My Doctor had recommended this after I was diagnosed with cancer stating that cancer will often times affect your sleep. I also take medication for anxiety and depression.

Thank you, Ginger. My dr is aware as he prescribes them. He would like me to stop Benadryl but I have an itchy skin condition Grovers and feel I need it at night. I will try journaling. I think having my cat sleep with me is interfering but she is insistent and will meow at door. I do enjoy reading before I initially fall asleep. Also keep room very cool (even with exorbitant electric bills) and quite dark. I’m afraid to turn light on to read in middle of night. Sometimes the FitOn meditations help. Also, I get hungry in the night and need to eat a banana or yogurt which sometimes helps me fall asleep.

Bananas have serotonin which helps to relax you.

You might want to try mindfulness as a strategy to at least deal with an excited mind. I use the Headspace app and there’s a fee. It has midnight SOS meditations. I haven’t had insomnia since I’ve been medicated with antidepressants for the last 10+ years, so I haven’t needed it for sleeping. But, I love listening to the silly bedtime stories at bedtime and the odd times when I do wake up at night and can’t get back to sleep. It does a good job of switching my big old brain off, which feels very relaxing. You can also take a look at this website. They seem to have a ton of material. https://www.mindful.org/a-mindfulness-practice-for-better-sleep/ Good luck. Insomnia was my precursor to deep depression. Praying that you find relief.

I have tv on 24h day. I have funny shows on for positive interactions. Since I was a 12 year old I at 70 still fight it. If it is quiet I jump at every sound. As a kid we had attic fan by my room. Daddy would turn it off and I would sneak and turn it on. He never knew which 5 kids did it. Lol so steady noise helps.

I’m like you, waking up 2 am every morning can’t go back to sleep. Tried all meds that Dr. gave me still wake up at 2. For some reason nothing works for me. Sleep Dr gave up on me already she said don’t know what to do with me and my sleep.

I take that too. I have extreme anxiety, insomnia and depression due to my husband’s cancer . Don’t take any other meds, if I may ask .
