Alternative treatments

Posted by siliai @siliai, Apr 4, 2019

I was wondering if anyone has done alternative treatments for Bronchiectasis. I am dealing with pseudomonas and have read Stephen Buhner’s herbal antibiotics book. Has anyone tried the protocols he recommends for treating lung infections?

I agree Sue. I am a retired acupuncturist/herbologist. Chinese herbs can be incredibly helpful under the right circumstances. It is difficult to source pure herbs these days and I would definitely not buy them on line. For folks taking western meds it is tricky. Herb/drug interactions can happen suddenly and without warning. Liver damage is often silent in the beginning. If you are on the big three it is a definite NO to herbs. If not on big three or too many other western meds I would seek out a very experienced chinese medicine practitioner. Don't try to be your own doctor - western or eastern.

I use herbal teas, also take mullien capsules and tincture. I take azithromycin and omadacycline. How can I find out if that’s a bad combination?

Try drugs.com to check drug interactions; there are many other sites that let you compare OTC and Rx.

Hell Reneemc, why do you need to take Azithromycin and Omadacycline? What bacteria do you grow? My pulmonologist is thinking of giving me Azithro (3) times a week and I am trying to get more information. Do you take these antibiotics for prevention or for bacteria?

what is your pulmo treating with the Azithromycin 3 times a week? That is something they may prescribe for chronic Pseudo. Monday Weds Friday usually 250 ml on those days. It is more of a management strategy for chronic pseudo. Azithro does not actually work on pseudo directly.

Thank you Irenea8. I assume he wants to give me as a prevention for flare ups. Not necessarily for Psuedo, more for inflammation I assume. I'm trying to gather more information as much as possible.

Do you have Pseudo? It is one of the standard treatments for managing it. I have never heard of giving it for general inflammation but that could be since it is anti inflammatory.

Thank you irenea8. I don't have Pseudo but I think it is for managing the inflammation. Both my doctor and I are holding that option for now.

Hi Irenea8,
Have you heard about a research study on the phages? This drug will target the pseudo specifically and get rid of it from the lungs. I hope the study is successful.
Best!
