I discovered new technique to nebulize, encourages sputum removal
I tried something new tonight..maybe this could help some people.
So, I nebulize with the 7% saline twice a day.
Tonight, I breathed it in, held it for a couple seconds, blew it out, but kept blowing, blowing, blowing out (through pursed lips).. until I couldn't blow out any more. It seemed to have reached maybe the lower part of my lungs. The sputum was copious!
So. breathe in.....hold a couple seconds,.....breathe out....out out out out..............(pursed lips ) out through your mouth!
Try it........it worked for me!
Additonally, when I do the Autogenic Breathing using the App, I do the same thing when blowing out. I breathe in through my nose, then breathe out through my mouth...out, out , out til I can't anymore. It really shakes up the sputum down under I think.... Hope it will help you too! Bon

AD app has added discipline to my clearance routine, like an RT coach. In mornings, I run through 8 - 2 minute cycles, until the mucus shows the slightest hint of yellow, sometimes clear. I breathe through a plastic tube to keep my glottis open.
Are you saying to breathe all the way out after every inhale of 7% solution or just when you finish nebulizing the 7% solution?
Hi Sally....
I breathe all the way out as far as I can......it triggers a deeper cough up of sputum in my opinion. I hold in the breath in for a couple seconds, and then blow out the steam......blow, blow, blow, and stuff comes up.
i blow out each time........gently.........hacking out after I have breathed out as much air as I can........
Hi Scoop:
When you breathe through the tube, is it in or out breath, or both in and out?
Hi, Arlo @equanimous,
Always, I breathe in (inhale) through my nose with my belly rising, and blow out through the my mouth which is around the tube . About an inch or so of the plastic tube is in my mouth as I blow out. Do not strain.
The AD app has excellent detailed instructions on how to use the app. I still read them when I need a refresher. Be sure to read them.
The link below is one of the best videos I've seen that demonstrates autogenic drainage. The link takes you to a page with several different clearance techniques. You'll need to choose the autogenic drainage video from the link. It's slightly different from AD app but the underlying principles are the same. Plus, it demonstrates with an actual person how to use the tube.
FYI - it took me a couple of months until I felt after a session that my lungs were clear.
It seems all very individual what works. Let me know if it helps you! Good Luck!

Hi, do you also take mucinex and NAC before the nebulizing. Are you doing all the clearance before breakfast or just AM?
The process for me is:
2 puffs of albuterol
Swallow mucinex and NAC with a full glass of water on empty stomach
busy myself for 15 minutes
nebulize with 7% saline
wait a couple of minutes
use AD app to clear my lungs
Yes, all on empty stomach, which means before breakfast.
Scoop! You are the best. Thank you for the video link. It is going to be SO helpful. As for the AD app, I have tried getting it on a number of occasions and, unfortunately, it does not appear to be available for android phones. The straw technique piqued my interest because that is one of the techniques taught to me by my vocal coach... to sing scales through a straw. I guess it is all connected and I feel my voice exercises are not only strengthening my voice but there is a bonus factor of it strengthening my lungs! Yay. Again, thanks for all your wisdom.
Oh, that's surprising and disappointing. This topic regarding android availability was previously discussed but I cannot find the comment. The result, I thought, was that it was available from android app store but maybe not. Trying searching cystic fibrosis, since that was the intended audience when first released.
