Managing fibromyalgia
Hello everyone, I am looking for anyone who suffers from fibromyalgia and can suggest healing methods, medication and I would like to compare symptoms. Mine feels as if I had the flu, headache, joint aches, terribly tired, pain around the glands, stomach pain, low back. If lyou can please write with any comment or suggestion for relief, or any idea what causes it I will appreciate it thank you.

@lingo1357 Hi Welcome to Mayo I haven't been on for awhile but know about fibromyalgia I've had it a long time .I am on Lyrica 50 mg 2 x a day it helps and fibromalic it has msm, magnesium and olive leaf in it I do alot of holistic meds .Before I was only on Fibromalic before adding Lyrica for my nerve problem

I'm so sorry you have FM, I've had it since 1995. I worked very closely with a rheumatologist for three years to design a regimen that works for me. We are all individual and the 120+ potential issues that can affect those with fibromyalgia are different for everyone. Some need medication (or a combination of meds), others physical therapy and others need counseling (or a combination of all three!). I take a cocktail of meds that help with Restless Legs Syndrome, insomnia, pain and inflammation. I stay away from all opioid medications as they never helped me. I've also dealt with migraines, IBS, and various other issues but fibro can be managed. My main advice is to not let fibro run your life or use it as a label for your life. You have fibro, it does not have you!

I had to do Physical therapy for 2 day weekly after a bad hip operation and its follow ups. I am old and the workout didn;t feel like they were accomplishing anything for my muscles. The I found HMB and rebuilding became mush easier for my muscles. I gather the "old" part is where HMB is recommended so?????

Pay attention to your diet. Many comfort foods are processed and will cause you pain and/or "the slows" the next day or so. Avoid white potatoes and tomatoes (nightshades), sugar and aspartame, whole wheat (maybe old wheat varieties are ok for you), moderate dairy. I am leery of supplements but now take D3, B-12 sublingual (helps fog) and magnesium. Hydration is really important, but also include electrolytes through the day. Avoid resting all day when you hurt: muscle loss is pretty quick when you do not keep moving. A morning walk can loosen up tense muscles that are painful. Massages, PT can also help. I use topical creams, ice/heat, lidocaine patches, KT tape as needed and pay attention to ergonomics. I wear splints at night for painful joints, which aids circulation and keeps cramping at bay.
Thanks for your info. I was offering the HMB idea as an extra possibility beyond the diet, hydration, vitamins anjd minerals like magnesium. HMB is not generally mentioned but it helped me significantly and is now hjelping me to get going again after all that COVID sitting around.
May I ask what your medication cocktail is?
It is personalized for me specifically and the various sub-problems I have and may not work for others. It is important to identify your own triggers and have a doctor prescribe accordingly. I stopped throwing expensive supplements at my issues many years ago since most didn't work even though I really wanted them to work. Neurontin for nerve pain, a tiny spec of Klonopin for RLS, Soma for muscle pain, Mobic for inflammation (due to many ortho injuries), and Cymbalta for FM. Once we figured out tolerable doses, they have remained the same for over 20 years. It is a pretty standard combination and good for me but may not work for others. The dosages are all small.
