Nebulizer recommendation

For those who have used nebulizer for 7 percent saline, what brand do you recommend?

Time for new cups and or compressor or both! I guess that ID Dr felt that very mild Bronc and MAC is not that serious and not an infectious disease that would require his care. But perhaps a regular Pulmo should keep tabs on you at least.

Thanks! Soaking the nebulizer for 6 hrs in vinegar didn't help. After 26 minutes of nebulizing, I still had 2 ml left of the original 4 ml of saline! 🙁

@lorifilipek Oh this is just dumb. So I said yesterday that the new compressor and new Sprint cups worked like a charm. haha. Today I did my nebulizing and after 15 minutes I still had about 2 ml left in the cup and it was again foamy. This is a brand new compressor and a cup that has been used maybe 3 times tops. I will call them tomorrow and see what they say. I am ready to throw in the towel on this Vios Green system. I'll let you know if they have any good suggestions. Oh...and I have soft water with a filtration system.

I have Pari Green and Pro Neb from Pari. Used with sprint cups. I have found that how you clean them is the key. Soaking in vinegar will dissolve any build up from hard water. I also notice that since we had new tanks for our whole home water purification system installed that the cups are working even better. One of the tanks is a descaler for hard water (which we have). So now when I boil the cups for 5 minutes it is not an issue (the hard water). But could be your compressor is needing a swap. They will send you a new one for free if you call them. Or if the filter needs changing that can make a BIG difference. Both my systems only take under 10 minutes on average. To me they go too fast and I often use a second vile of saline since I need to nebulize for some time to get benefits!

I did not like the Pari Pro Neb. Took forever to neb. I love the Ombra and their cups.

How long have you been using the Ombra and how long does it take to nebulize 4 ml solution? Thanks!

17 to 20 minutes. There are 2 settings you can use. If you choose the setting that does not send out medicine, if you take your mouth off the mouth piece, it takes about 25 minutes. I use the setting where the medicine flows continually, even if you remove your mouth for a few seconds.

I have thought of trying the Ombra. How do you clean it? What do they recommend?

I also have the Ombra compressor and AeroEclipse XL nebulizer, both made by Monaghan, the same company that makes the Aerobika. You do not clean the Ombra, but you do change the filter monthly or when gray. I wash the nebulizer in warm, soapy water every time I use it. They suggest disinfecting every other day and give 5 options. I choose to soak in 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water for 1 hr., then rinse. I use the breath actuated mode, which I know takes longer, but I think I get more of the saline because it only produces aerosol when I inhale. What I haven't figured out is why I am able to nebulize 3 ml. Levalbuterol in a much shorter time period than 4 ml. saline. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thank you. Yes I was referring to cleaning the nebulizer cups. What options do they suggest besides vinegar? It is probably just the nature of the medication vs the saline that makes it shorter time? I remember researching the Ombra and there was something about the instructions that made me hesitant to buy it but cannot remember what that was!

The other disinfection options for the nebulizer cups include: bleach, boiling, microwave steam bag, and electronic steam sterilizer. I have never tried any of these, so I don't have any advice about them. Donna

I sterilize the cups daily and change the tubing and filter once a month. The machine itself is just wiped down.
