Nebulizer recommendation

For those who have used nebulizer for 7 percent saline, what brand do you recommend?

Help! For those of you who use the Pari Vios go-green compressor with the Sprint nebulizer, has the time you needed to nebulize 4 ml increased over the life of the system? I started out in about 2019/20 and it took about 7 minutes. Now, with my second compressor and new Sprint nebulizers, it takes almost 30 minutes to nebulize 4 ml of 7% saline. A year ago, it was about 15 minutes.

Hi @lorifilipek and @sueinmn
I've had this problem off and on with the Pari Vios Sprint. I called the Pari Vios company to complain about the time it takes and that the solution gets foamy in the cup. The rep told me since I was nebbing 7%, not 3%, that I should alternately clean my cups with sudsy hot water and then the next time, boil for 5 minutes. That helped a lot. But only for a while. So I ordered new cups and the first time it took me over 15 minutes and it was still foamy with solution in the cup. I called the company again and complained. My compressor was only about a year old but they said it was the compressor failing and they sent me a new compressor. Works great now...takes maybe 7-8 minutes. Hope this helps. Think next time I will order a different compressor system and the older style cups from Pario Vios, Not the Sprint. Good luck. Kate

This may be a dumb question, but why were we convinced to switch the the Sprint cup?

@sueinmn Cause I read on this site that it was faster.

Hi @irenea8 , @sueinmn , @alleycatkate I too got the Pari Vios Go-Green and Sprint nebulizer from recommendations on this site. I have well water that’s very hard, but I use softened water to clean the nebulizer. I started with water and vinegar, then switched to alternating soaking in hot soapy water and boiling for 5 minutes on alternate days. At the moment, I’m soaking my nebulizer for several hours in straight vinegar to see if that helps. I called Pari yesterday and they are sending me a new condenser—it will be the second replacement compressor since I bought the first in March 2020.

Hi Lori, you are supposed to clean in soapy water after every use including before you boil for 5 minutes. That won't help with the issue you are having but just thought you should know that. They recommend a more diluted use of vinegar (3 to 1) as an alternate disinfecting method but it is considered light disinfecting. Using straight for the build up from hard water makes sense. See if it helps. Or maybe the new compressor will be the solution. I assume you are changing the filter. The Pari Green is rather notorious for not lasting that long if used twice a day. I think the ProNeb Max is better for twice a day use and it works faster too.

Hi Irene. Thanks for the advice! When I first used my nebulizer, I used 3 to 1 diluted vinegar. I only nebulize 7% saline once a day, if that, because I have a very mild case of bronchiectasis and MAC. I do change the filter. (My ID doctor "fired" me after looking at my CT scans and calling them "underwhelming!" I don't seem to have exacerbations, just coughing up blood twice in the last several years. He has had experience with many bronch/MAC patients and feels many are over-diagnosed.)

Lori you are fortunate. Count your blessings! My last CT and my recent X ray looks "terrible" to quote my pulmo and I have symptoms to match. I was curious what the ID Dr actually meant when he said many Bronch/MAC are over diagnosed? Do you know?

Probably people like me, who don't have exacerbations and only small amount of tree-in-bud and few, small nodules that don't grow.

Well keep up the saline nebulizing! Really hope it stays very mild for you.

Thanks! Soaking the nebulizer for 6 hrs in vinegar didn't help. After 26 minutes of nebulizing, I still had 2 ml left of the original 4 ml of saline! 🙁
