What's outside of your picture window today?
As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?
For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

John, one more comment. Looking at your Junco link, I see the slate colored Junco really does look similar to the Phoebe. The Juncos we have by my place are the ones that say Oregon. Males are brown with black heads. Females are all brown. If you scroll down on the page you sent, you'll see "compare to similar birds" and it shows the black Phoebe. Good eye! The Phoebes always stay about 10 feet away and don't ever ask for food like the Juncos who get one foot away from me. I'm not familiar with that many birds so I always have to look everything up. I've sure been loving them around here though! Thanks for your input! 🙂
These look like dandelions on steroids. The yellow flower with spiky leaves it blooms with is gorgeous but they weren't open when I went out.
I love your coyote story! I live in Arizona and we have a lot of coyotes, javalinas, roadrunners , rattlesnakes and other desert creatures. Our house is right next to a wash, where the water from monsoons flows. It’s a very green area and I often see coyotes and javalinas traveling through this area. I absolutely love it!
Sometimes several Javalinas will sleep under a bush just a few feet away from our wrought iron fence. My little dog goes crazy when the javalinas are there. Javalinas totally ignore her. One thing about Javalinas is that they are very stinky. I can smell them when they decide to take a nap next to our fence. Oh, and they also like rummaging through trash cans, but that’s another story! 😀
Hi @vellen. They do look like dandelions on steroids and just as fun to blow the fuzzies! 🙃
Actually they’re called Goat Beards and they only pop open on sunny mornings and close by noon!
My mom used stick the puffy heads in bouquets after she sprayed them with hair spray. LOL. My dad just called ‘em dust collectors!! He didn’t get the “natural” bouquets of weeds my mom used to have on the table. 🤣
Here is the flower I had described.
I absolutely love and prefer wildflowers.
We have hundreds of baby grasshoppers in our front and side area. They're so fun to watch.
@vellen Wow, those Goat Beards look like "Grandi-lions!"
I would love to see a pic of all the baby grasshoppers. I hardly ever see one around here. I also love a good praying mantis. Years ago, I walked out onto my patio and saw a praying mantis wrapped up like a mummy in a spider web. Suddenly, I realized it was still alive with its eyes blinking as it marinated for dinner. Like in the movie "The Fly" I felt it was saying, "Help me!" I spent about 10 minutes gently peeling off the the very sticky web (sorry spider -- you did a spectacular wrapping job though). It was fine and so grateful for the rescue that it stayed on my patio wall for the next two weeks. It stayed right next to me when I came out to visit each day. It was a good listener with a great sense of curiosity. 🙂
What a great story! I'll go out now to see if I can get those little critters to stay still long enough for a photo. If I could post a video... alas.
The baby grasshoppers are too quick fir my cell phone, perhaps when they're a bit older. I did find one one, maybe from the first round as it's bigger than the babies.
The babies are getting close to launch day!
