Having problems with dry mouth possibly from medications
Ever since I have been taking vcertain meds, I have been plagued with terrible dry mouth. Not even sure which meds are the culprit!

When I fell it was flat on my face breaking two ribs. My doctor said she thinks I got a bit of whiplash to my spine and back. I fell forward and went down like a led balloon. So fast that I didn't have time to stop the fall. BAM! Face, ribs, shoulders, breasts took the blunt of the fall. Nerve damage is what I take Gabo and Cyclo for. I bought a heat/cold back belt from Walmart and that I use everyday and it truly works wonders.
Thank you Before my creepy fall, 6 months on the 25th of this month I too took/take Levothyroxine 150 MCG, Hydrochlorothiazide 25 MG, and Bupropion 200 MG. Never had this hair loss. That's why I associate Gabo and Cyclo with hair loss. I agree nerve pain in my back and spine are the worst. Mix that with arthritis they found back there and yikes it hurts! I am still going off the medicine though. It hurts worse at night in bed. During the day I can handle pain better.
I understand. We have to remember that usually we will not have the thick hair we had in our teens-40's when we are in our 60's+. Yes, my hair came back but it took a while. I thought I was going to go bald I had so much hair loss! I recommend a good shampoo like Pureology & the conditioner. It's expensive but a little goes a long way. I also like Nexxus shampoo/conditioner with protein infusion (it's cheaper than Pureology). Do not wear your hair up a lot or in a tight ponytail as this can cause the hair to thin as well as it puts stress on the hair. Try not to wear it up when you go to bed...more stress on the hair. I shampoo less often and use a very wide toothed comb to get the tangles out after I shampoo and condition... leaning over and combing gently. Do not blow dry your hair or use a curling iron as much if you can help it. Let it air dry if you can. Use a good mousse like Joico or Kenra to make it look thicker right after you towel dry your hair. Lightly Massage it into your hair all over. Let it dry before you style your hair. Do not apply too much or you will get buildup and your hair will be stiff. Try not to use hairspray if you can help it. I personally could not tell a difference in taking biotin vitamins for hair loss. You may. I empathize as I know how it feels to keep seeing so much hair in the shower after shampooing and pieces of hair all over the place...even the pillow. I hope some of this helps you greatly. Praying for you & God bless you.
in reply to @catlove30 I too have dry mouth and use either Biotene Spray, mouthwash, gel and/or the lozenges sold specifically for dry mouth. The lozenges work the best. I can't think of the brand off hand, but they are in the same section as the Biotene products. Tic-Tacs work well too.
My hair is falling out also, but I blame it on aging. I’m 83, and was in pretty good health until diagnosed with PMR. But I have a Lupus type illness, and have dry mouth, oral sores, arthritis, etc. I believe all of this things attribute to hair thinning.
I most definitely will try the shampoos/conditioners and mousse. I understand about not having the same thick hair as when we were younger. I also know that I won't be able to color it now either. To go grey is horrifying to me. It just looks ugly growing out. I do hope I find out the cause soon. It's just a matter of elimation. The new drugs go first. If that doesn't work I will ask the the doctor if she could do a complete blood work up on me. Thanks for prayers and God bless you also
I knew I wasn't the only person with dry mouth because of the products out there. I am hoping by getting off the drugs it will alleviate this. I like the spray at night. I am always afraid I will fall asleep and choke on the lozenges. LOL Is your dry mouth caused by drugs?
Did your primary care, dermatologist or hairdresser tell you not to color your hair? There are safe colors such as Madison Reed. You have to order this online. They have excellent reviews and the color has no harsh chemicals.
God Bless.
Oh bless you! Well if I lose a lot more hair I will be investing in some baseball type hats. Before I tripped on the above ground tree root I was fine too. We never know in life what's ahead do we. Bless you my friend!
No, actually that was my thoughts, only me came up with that. LOL I will look up Madison Reed hair colors. I use L'Oreal. Thanks for all your help. I will keep you informed, okay?
