Why is breath holding important during airway clearance?

Linda, I’m currently reading your book the be clear method. I know you said you use a Pari neb brand nebulizer for your airway clearance. Can you tell me which model? I remember in a previous post you said it works well for you. I also switched from an Acupella to the Areobika and it does seem to work better. Thank-you.

For a couple years after my diagnosis, I use the Pari trek S but then switched over to an Ombra system by Monaghan. Both companies make excellent machines. I like the Ombra because it works well with two other products the company manufactures - the Aerobika and the Aeroeclipse nebulizing cup. Also, National Jewish Health recommends the Ombra system as they say it is most similar to what they have in the hospital.

I have a question. Does everyone buy their own ACTs equipment? I get mine through Medicare and I have no choice on what equipment I get.

That's a good question. I got my "big" Pari Vios Green compressor through Medicare, but I am on my own to buy nebulizer cups and tubing. It's not too expensive though. As for the airway clearance device, Medicare has covered both the Acapela and Aerobika for me - depending on what the respiratory therapist had on hand.
I travel a lot, so as part of our travel budget, I chose to buy a smaller nebulizer for on the road, one that runs on batteries, electric, or a car plug.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have bought a small portable Nebulizer that runs on batteries, also. My Aerobika was also paid for Medicare.

Spider, I use a ProNeb Max (Pari). Right now I’m using the Aerobika attached to the mouthpiece of the nebulizer. My pulmonary therapist showed me how to attach it. But I’m not sure I’m doing it right. I need to watch the breath-holding advice. Good luck.
