Why is breath holding important during airway clearance?
Listen to Bradley Boynton from the Mayo Clinic to learn why and how to get the most out of your airway clearance.
Thank you COPD Foundation and the Bronchiectasis and NTM 360 initiative for this excellent webinar.

Regarding clearance/breath holding etc I'd love to figure out how to make the whole process quieter than it is now, especially during travel. Is that an impossible dream?
Thanks for sharing @becleartoday
This one is good too! As someone is showing you how to do it.
Yes and I always enjoy a Scottish accent!
Mayo is really high standard, thorough and precise! They are going to ship me PARI neubilizer as it can connect with Aerobika. That will save me a lot of time!
Is it Mayo Jax that is sending you the Pari? I would love to know what Compressor and nebulizer cup Mayo recommends!! I thought the only combination to connect to Areobika, is the Ombra compressor with the Eclipse cup.
Thank you for sharing. This was very informative.
Always good to get more information about airways clearance...thx
Hi Bubbie!!!
Increased pressure gradient! During a breath hold, especially at full inspiration, there is an increased pressure gradient between adjacent alveoli. This higher pressure difference encourages air-flow through the pores of Kohn from areas of higher pressure to lower pressure.
This means that if there is mucus blocking an air sac, the breath hold increases the pressure and pushes the air into the neighboring sac to dislodge mucus. Bradley discusses this in his talk. However, some people are short of breath and breath holds might not be a good practice. With that said, if you are able to hold your breath for a couple of seconds while using a device like the Aerobika it might be beneficial. Dr PJ McShane from UT Tyler seems to regularly mention breath holds.
Do not change your current practices without first discussing them with your medical team. 🙂

I hope this answers your question
Yes they said it is Pari, and it can connect with Aerobika! I have to check the model number as I have not received them.
I am using the compression vest two times a day. Have nebulizer and aerobika. I tend to use nebulizer more. Which is better
