Why is breath holding important during airway clearance?

Listen to Bradley Boynton from the Mayo Clinic to learn why and how to get the most out of your airway clearance.

Thank you COPD Foundation and the Bronchiectasis and NTM 360 initiative for this excellent webinar.

Is it Mayo Jax that is sending you the Pari? I would love to know what Compressor and nebulizer cup Mayo recommends!! I thought the only combination to connect to Areobika, is the Ombra compressor with the Eclipse cup.

I am nebulizing with a connected Aero Eclipse XL and Aerobika as I type this 🙂

That's a good question. I got my "big" Pari Vios Green compressor through Medicare, but I am on my own to buy nebulizer cups and tubing. It's not too expensive though. As for the airway clearance device, Medicare has covered both the Acapela and Aerobika for me - depending on what the respiratory therapist had on hand.
I travel a lot, so as part of our travel budget, I chose to buy a smaller nebulizer for on the road, one that runs on batteries, electric, or a car plug.

De Vilbiss Traveler with battery. My next one will be a Pari Trek though - this isn't as good as my previous one.

HI Spider109,
Mayo sent me 2 Reusable Nebulizers, Parc LC Plus
I checked online and found the compressor should be PRONEB Max Compressor Kit. I have to purchase it myself. Some online vendor required doctor's prescription for that. It is about $87, but some vendors listed the price as $154.

How much do you pay for Proneb Max Compressor ladies?

Regarding clearance/breath holding etc I'd love to figure out how to make the whole process quieter than it is now, especially during travel. Is that an impossible dream?

@scoop I sure do relate with your impossible dream to make this process quieter! I don't see anyone with responses to this quest, but just know that you are not alone. Traveling presents issues with finding a private place (sometimes in someone else's home, sometimes when sharing a room, sometimes in close quarters) to do the requirements of airway clearance WITHOUT exposing others to the sounds or other details! The only tip I can share is that sometimes a car parked outside has been my privacy refuge. And then I worry about what passers-by think I'm up to...
Hang in there!

CVS sells the Pari compressor for under $100 after coupons they gave in their system. It may have been even under $50 and it came with red usable nebulizer. The Pari Trek compressor is suitable for travel and also online for < $100 shipped. Battery costs extra but it can be used by plugging it in if you don’t NEED the battery. It comes with power cord for power from standard home outlets as well as a cord for use in cars.
