Grover's Disease: What works to help find relief?
I have been diagnosed with Grover's disease under my breasts. I had a biopsy for diagnosis. Tried topical ointment with no really good results. Any ideas?

I totally agree re skin trauma theory.
There is no clinically proven cause of GD, however during my research for something to offer relief, I believe about 70% of Dermo's in OZ are of the same opinion re skin trauma.
I live in sub-temperate climate in Brisbane, Qld. and exposure to direct sunlight and sweating always exacerbate the itch.
Good to hear the photo therapy has been a life-line for you.
Will try to find someone here who treats GD with PT.
Cheers
I used gabapentin for 13 years and I was itch free the entire time. Then it quit working about 18 months ago. Eucerin Itch Relief is one of the lotions that gives me relief for a few hours. I recently started using Eucerin Calming Body Wash in the shower, it's too soon to know if it's helping at all. It does make the shower floor dangerously slippery. My PCP prescribed Hydroxyzine which, when taking two of them, makes me sleepy enough to eventually forget the itch. I am itching when I wake up. Keep threatening to buy some cilantro capsules (I can't stand the taste of cilantro) but haven't done it yet.
Thanks for your reply. I haven’t used gabapentin in a while. Trying to stay off unless really itchy.
I use Eucerin most days, too. If a bit bumpy or itchy, I do use the steroid cream for a day.
The steroid cream starting with trixxxxx fine print says it can cause or worsen glaucoma. My wife has serious glaucoma so I don't use it. In the 13 years I used gabapentin I had no noticeable side effects. A couple PCPs seemed concerned about it but they hadn't itched like I did in 2007/2008. Good luck !
Like many of you I rely on antihistamines (Allegra and Benadryl currently). The only side effect I've noticed is frequent nosebleeds which I attribute to dry sinuses. I've been taking antihistamines twice daily for over a year. Does anyone know of any longterm problems with regular use of antihistamines? Thanks.
I was prescribed antihistamines for my Grover’s itch. It didn’t really help, but my blood went super high, so I got off them & my blood pressure returned to normal.

It was probably my fault for raising a question concerning the possible triggers (Causes) of GD. I’ve noticed that this thread focuses mainly on treatment issues. Is there a separate thread related to causes? If so, how does one access that thread?
You can use the search function or pose a new question about what triggers a Grover’s outbreak.
HERE IS AN UPDATE TO MY LAST POST ON MY CONTINUED QUEST TO FIND WAYS TO COPE WITH GD. I WOULD LIKE TO BE CLEAR THAT MY SUGGESTIONS ARE JUST THAT AND NOTHING MORE, I AM NOT A DOCTOR AND I AM NOT GIVING MEDICAL ADVISE, SIMPLY SHARING TREATMENTS THAT HAVE WORKED FOR ME.
I HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT TAKE ANY ORAL MEDICATIONS, AS I DO NOT FEEL THEY WORK AND HAVE MORE THEN THEIR SHARE OF NEGATIVE SIDE EFFECTS.
TREATMENTS THAT WORK FOR ME.
1. WILLOW BALM FOR PAIN IS STILL MY GO TO FOR THE ITCHING AND IS AMAZING FOR STOPPING THE ITCH.
(CONS) A BIT STRONG SMELLING BUT I HAVE SMELLED WAY WORSE.
(NOTE) WILLOW BALM HAS PRODUCT FOR ITCHING BUT IT IS NOT AS EFFECTIVE AS THE PAIN BALM (ITS SMELLS LESS STRONG)
2. WITCH HAZEL AND HYDROGEN PEROXIDE TO CLEAN THE EFFECTED AREA.
(CONS) HYDROGEN PEROXIDE CAN BURN BUT IT NOT THE WORST PAIN AND USE THE PEROXIDE AFTER CLEANING YOUR SKIN.
3. TOP CHOICE FOR NON-TOPICAL TREATMENT IS GOING TO THE TANNING SALON AND USING A UVA /UVB STAND UP BED ON THE EFFECTED AREAS OF MY BACK AND CHEST. I SPEND 6 TO 7 MINS 2 TIMES A WEEK AND I AM MOSTLY ITCH FREE FOR 95% OF THE WEEK.
(CONS) dermatologist GET VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT TANNING. BUT SINCE THEY HAVING TO PERSONALLY DEAL WITH THE NON-STOP ITCHING DAY AND NIGHT, I DO NOT CARE WHAT THEY THINK A THIS POINT. TANNING IS THE KEY TO MY DEALING WITH GD. BUT KEEP IN MIND I AM USING A LIMITED TIME TO OBTAIN A SLIGHT REDDING OF MY SKIN. SIMPLY WORKS FOR ME.
I HOPE THIS HELPS AS I HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS PRODUCTS AND THIS HAS BEEN A BLESSING FOR ME.
