Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

SAME! I have tried everything. The sticky mucus in my throat gets so bad it makes me gag and almost throw up. It’s miserable

I use Azelestine spray, better than any other, and can be taken as needed. works in 10-20 minutes.
Also red bell pepper chewed, dissolves the phlegm and clears the back of the throat. Try it!
I had 3 full doses of Moderna, last shot 20 months ago, Will never take any of the mRNA vaccines because the lipid nanoparticles penetrate every cell in the body and tigger numerouse unknow side effects.
If you are deficient in D3, and you will be unless you live in the southern states, your immune system is seriously comprimised. I take 5000iu of D3 and 100mcg K2 starting 4 months ago. Get rid of as much sugar as you can in your diet (like no processed foods with added sugar!) and you will see amazing results in every part of your body. I am 77 and walk 200minutes/ week on treadmill at 3.5-6% grade at 3mph. There is no magic bullet to body health, except getting rid of all excess sugars! Its literally poison, and buried in every processed food product you buy.

hello friends...
I wrote time ago, writing that sugar makes symptoms worse... even others here reported this.
But even removing chocolates, icecreams etc.... I still had pnd.
A friend of mine, suggested me to try a diet poor in carbohydrates, because from the breakfast, I used to eat cereales, that are 80% carbohydrates....so the diet is some weeks without cereales, pasta, bread, pizza, fruits...
search the web for low carbohydrates diet...
I should eat things that have very low carbohydrates and high in proteins and fats.
I tried it a bit, and feel much better regarding the pnd.
Can you tell me if you are eating cereales, pasta, bread, pizza, fruit?
Or, is someone of us who doesn t these food and still have pnd?

Sugar is THE poison that effects everything. Do not eat anything with refined flour. I mean anything. Its pure sugar. Dont eat anything with any processed seed oils, Canola, Sunflower, sesame, etc. Only virgin olive oil, and coconut oil. Healthy fats from sardines, salmon, all wild caught, chicken, or unprocessed meat. Most things with a Bar Code on it, are bad for you, as the main ingredient is grain, sugar and processed oils. I lost 10 lbs in 6 weeks, by elminating all added sugars and eat a mediteranean diet with fresh vegetables daily.

I went to an ENT yesterday for post Covid post nasal drip. He prescribed Amitripyline. Has anyone ever used this drug?

I got Covid in March of 2020. It was mild, but lots of coughing and weird dizziness for a month. Fast forward. I still have tons of phlegm I’m my throat. My Doctor just doesn’t think it’s long Covid. I know it is. I’ve never had it before Covid. I feel like the mucus never goes away in my throat. Certain foods make it worse. Sometimes even toothpaste makes me gag. I’ve taken many different antihistamines, Pepcid, antihistamine nasal sprays, saline. Nothing helps much. I have this big lump in my throat. I can spit, but it comes right back. I dread going to my Dr again, she will just blame it on something else. Maybe a sinus Specialist? No, histamine diet doesn’t work either. Anyone find any relief?? Even some family just make jokes about my hacking and don’t believe in long Covid. I feel alone. My husband is my only believer in this issue.

Doctor said the same thing. Went to an ENT and he said it's reflux. Taking the medication, but I still have the awful post nasal drip and phlem which is so much worse at night. I wake myself up coughing. Awful. This virus is too new, I think, to have this diagnosed.

I know Pepcid helps me when I have a stomach ache, but doesn’t help me with the phlegm. The only thing that actually helped some was Benedryl, but that can be constipating. I actually don’t cough from inside my lungs , I hack mucus like a Llama. I avoid potato chips, orange juice and nuts. It makes it so much worse. It almost seems like sinusitis with a food allergy I had scans done of my lungs and sinuses, and nothing shows up. I think that’s why some people don’t believe I have anything. I’m going to try Flonase again, maybe for a little longer. Hugs 🤗

i have the same thing,,as far as the post nasal drip..i know it is because covid messed up my sinuses, the phlegm is always in my throat 24/7 and gets really thick like seconds..i mean seconds after i eat or drink anything, i have tried acid reflux meds prescribed by my doctor...nothing worked..so i keep my sinuses irrigated and that helps until the next day, it's now a routine everyday...

Forget the sinus specialist, or ENT, I had absolutely no help there. I was on a PPI for reflux, that didn’t help. I have been diagnosed with asthma, likely covid induced, and that Dr (pulmonologist) said reflux and asthma like to coexist. ( my chest x/ray and ct scan both normal) She put me on Symbicort (inhaler) It helps a lot but does not eliminate. Thought I was doing better and tried going off of it - big mistake. Serious mucous buildup with a couple of days. Best thing I’ve found is chewing gum following a meal. Like I’m chomping on gum for and hour or two which keeps me swallowing and helps keep the post food mucus down to a more tolerable level. My covid was July 2022. I’m so discouraged to read you’ve been dealing with it for 3 years. I’m afraid it’s going to be forever!

I also had same thing. Got COVID a month ago and still running nose and coughing. Seems like junk in my throat that I just can’t and maybe chest too that I just can’t cough out. Hoping it goes away sometime soon.
