Continued Post-Nasal Drip and Constant Mucus in Throat

Posted by adominic @adominic, Mar 22, 2022

I was sick the last week or January/first week of February. Home Test-negative, rapid PCR-negative. All COVID symptoms and known prolonged exposure to infected individuals make me believe it was COVID. Since then, I have had a tremendously hard time dealing with post-nasal drip and mucus collecting in my throat. It is clear, sticky and almost impossible to remove from throat by coughing or clearing my throat. Flonase does nothing, allergy pills do nothing. Had anyone else had an issue like this post COVID? How long did it last? What did you do to cope? Small problem in comparison to others that post here, I realize.

I am experiencing the same symptoms. It started with a fever/sickness. I'm not sure if it was COVID or not. The body aches lasted about 2 days and then got a sore throat, then coughing that lasted about a 1.5 months. Now I get a constant post nasal drip but no longer coughing. I kept clearing my throat but can't seem to clear it. It's clear and sticky. My doctor gave me some Ipratropium nasal spray which seems to help a bit. But I get more relief from Flonaze. I'm fine as long as I use Ipratropium and Flonaze but I don't want to be dependent on them. It's going on 4 months now since I had the symptoms.

I’ve had the same problem with the nasal drip and phlegm since getting the COVID in January of 2021. I got a prescription for Ipratropium Bromide nasal spray and it helps control it but doesn’t get rid of it

I got the same prescription, and it helps but it doesn't get rid of it. Flonase helps for about 24 hours but it keeps coming back.

Funny how this would come up. I’ve had covid this past summer and it’s now March and I still have an annoying post nasal drip. I have to sniff hard to have it go away briefly and inefectivly and blowing my nose. and it does clear my throat but 2 minutes later I’m doing it again. I’ve just had my second booster vaccine.
I too take Flonase and several inhalers.
I’ve had two Psyser vaccines and two boosters. But I got covid anyway although I’m glad they were mild symptoms. All those vaccines probably kept me out of the hospital. My younger sister, (an anti vaxxer who believes in the Bill Gates microchip conspiracy) went on a trip to Florida and Arizona and everyone vaccinated caught a moderate case of covid but she was the only one out of 4 people that never caught covid. I’m still pro-vaccine but it makes me wonder why she never got the virus although I’m afraid of what could happen if she caught covid. It’s come to the point that we stopped talking about it as it brought strong differences between us that turned into either one of us angry .

I’ve had the same thing I was exposed and infected with the Covid-19 virus early September of 2022 although the worst of it was over in less than 48hrs the sticky throat back of the nasal passage has not gone away since. It is a constant but will flare up at night to the point I can’t sleep. I’m hoping to find answers or something to help it but seems there is not much I can do but hope it resolves itself. Good luck to you I hope you have better luck

In answer to your question I feel that I am managing my sinus condition well with only occasional need for nasal rinses at this time. At this point if I wanted to end nasal rinses I'd have to part with most of my household belongings & live in a sterile field!

May I ask what sort of nasal rinses you are using? I e never done one but maybe it would clear out the mucus and gunk. Thank you.

I went to an ENT yesterday for post Covid post nasal drip. He prescribed Amitripyline. Has anyone ever used this drug?

No, but I've using Ipratropium Bromide nasal spray for about 2 months now and it hasn't gotten rid of the Post Nasal Drip yet. It helps but it keeps coming back. Let us know if that works for you.

My Dr recommended Singulair after i had Covid pneumonia and ongoing phlem. It has helped, no longer coughing up a lung or globs of goop

You can view what I use on the Mayo Clinic online store. It is under the Health header, which leads you to Medicine & Treatments. Under that you will see NeilMed, which is what I use.
