MTHFR Mutation

Posted by doriejean @doriejean, Feb 3, 2023

I was born with MTHFR Mutation. I've had all the symptoms of this mutation all my 82 years of life including mental illnesses.
I now have a Southern Illinois Medical School professor who understands this disease and has ease the symptoms that have plagued me all my life.

As I write the account MTHFR has cause my during my life, you must factor in that my childhood was filled with anxiety that ruled my life during times turmoil. My husband worked for a corporation and were transferred multiple times.
I had migraine headaches and Obsessive-Compulsive Disease (OCD) all through my childhood until I was 18 years old. Actually, OCD has been my constant partner throughout my entire life. I obsessed about men in my life without end. These are the symptoms I had that can now be attributed to my MTHFR:
Anxiety OCD Infertility ADHD Dyslexia Agoraphobia
Diarrhea Anger Fainting Anemia
I would be sitting on my sofa and suddenly I felt myself flying out the window, smelling order from my childhood.
Recently, I have had fits of anger. Thankfully, I am on medication that controls the anger. Four days after starting to take Methyl B-12, my obsessions disappeared forever. I also take iron supplements. I thank medicine for all the research its doing in researching MTHFR.
For the one who has MTHFR, I hope you are not suffering. Don't wait another minute to find help. Some people who have it may not have symptoms

I have MTHFR from mom and dad. Does it have to be from both or can one parent have te gene?

I think it's from both parents, but only my Dad had mthfr. I have double 677 variant. Getting answers for help is very difficult. Mds not familiar with it. I take methyl folate and vitamin from Methyl Life. They are most knowledgeable about mthfr

I have this and so does my adult son. For my case and his, our diet had to change big time. I also have had my thyroid removed and parathyroid many years ago as it was so unstable. Synthroid ever since so I could check that box off. The covid shots through my body into a mess, and my son and I both had huge reactions. MTHFR was mentioned to both of us in two different states. We both ended up with holistic medicine doctors to deal with Mast Cell Activation and the supplements required to correct out chemistry . Their protocols were excellent. Take a look at Becky Campbell’s amazing site, and Beth O’Hara’s.. There are many sites around the entire world for MCAS . I use Becky’s supplements called Optimal Reset, and they are a Godsend for correcting . MTHFR is very good at causing weird upsets! I react to everything and have a long allergy list. My adult son actually went into anaphylactic shock from it after one of his covid shots. I was very sick after each shot. I hope you check out the web sites for MCAS and see if that has any ah ha moments for you! Good luck!

Thank you for responding. From what I've been reading, the Methyl B12 is a better option.

I have been taking B12 shots for about 2 years, have mthfr double 677 variant, celiac, neuropathy, hashimotos. Due to celiac I don't absorb B12 pills. You don't want synthetic B12 shot, it contains arsenic. Am still searching for help with mthfr.

Hi ! I am new to the post and community here. I came across this while searching for the MTHFR mutation. All I was told by my gp was I have the mutation but homocysteine is within range and bit b12 is high. Which is due to the mutation . He’s thinking Hashimoto (?) . Any advice - Ty in advance!

My b12 was over 2,000 but lab shows how much B12 in body, does not show how much is usable so test is not correct. I take daily b12 shots and not synthetic kind, has to be Methyl type. That's great your homosysteine is ok.

Hello,

I was told by a pharmacist that the Orthomolecular supplements for the MTHFR are the best. Unfortunately, this pharmacy closed and now I have to find the medications elsewhere. I was taking 3 supplements: 1) Methyl CpG; 2) N-Acetyl Cysteine (NAC) but I cannot remember the other one. Would it be Methyl B Complex? Or is it Methyl B12? I would appreciate an answer. Thank you.

Laurie

What I'm taking is B12 liquid, Vitamin D, methyl folate, COQ10, Nutrient 950, Magnesium, Vitamin B6, then I also take iron, fish oil, calcium for bone strength, Vitamin E to prevent tardiv dysconesia. Does anyone know if this is the best thing to do, to take all these supplements? Thanks in advance!

I would take a b- complex suited for methylation- for MTHFR. Sometimes just a b6 Can throw out ur other b- vitamins-best advice is to have ur bloodwork done by someone who does functional testing or uses spectrum- looking at the cellular level. Then they can precisely tell u what would be best for u! Best to not guess- rule of thumb. But the fact you are supporting your system is good with nutritional support!

I have been taking up to 11 vitamins and supplements a day as prescribed by a doctor 7 years ago, due to MTHFR gene mutation. I would like to update what supplements and vitamins are needed for this condition. Any input welcome!

I have tested positive for being double heterozygous for the MTHFR gene mutation. I can't find much info on this particular mutation combination, but I have been taking 3,000mcg of l-methylfolate and wonder if I should be taking more. I suffer from depression and anxiety, fibromyalgia and various muscle aches and pains.

Hi @cormer,

I have the same conditions…diagnosed 22 years ago. I have spent a lifetime trying to find real healing from all of this and just recently found out about the gene mutations.
I would love to hear more about your journey and what helps.
