How do you deal with dry eyes?

I have dry eyes due to sjogren's syndrome. Does anyone else deal with dry eyes?

I take omega 3s for my eyes as well. Not sure if they work for dry eyes or not but they came highly recommended by a practitioner who sees a lot of people like me with dry eyes and Fuchs dystrophy and down the line, macular degeneration. I don’t have the last ailment just yet but genetically with both parents suffering from dry AMD, what am I waiting for?? Vigilant about exposure of my eyes to the sun, is a start!! Many thanks for this group and Mayo Clonic for crowd-sourcing us‼️ best Marianne

i take restasis, prescription, 1 drop each eye am & pm, or for me, pm and am. Plus when that's not enough, Refresh tear drops, refresh liquigel, refresh or systane gel drops, because ophthalmologist says it's oil my eyes aren't getting.

And she also said all eyedrops without preservatives (all single droppers) must be refrigerated to keep bacteria from growing on them then infecting your eyes.

But most drops in bottles (excepting the recent ones that the FDA pulled from the shelves -- preservative were left out and I believe a woman actually died, hope I'm wrong about that) -- most drops in bottles do have preservatives and are safe to take. These don't require prescriptions.

Haven't got sjögren's though. What does your rheumatologist say? Have you seen an ophthalmologist?

Hope you feel better. Best.

Meditation helps the tears coming out.
Also messaging around the eyes helps

I was just at my Dr. for this problem. She told me to get a baby extra soft toothbrush and Johnson no more tears shampoo. Mix shampoo with warm water and gently brush the rim of your eyelids. The glands get clogged with oil, makeup etc...and to take fish oil. This has really helped me. I do use dry eye drops, too.

Yes, dry eyes are a problem, but there are many ways to help yourself at home as well as some new physician procedures. First, any eye drops that have preservatives dry your eyes out more! That means that most OTC drops will aggravate dry eyes instead of helping. I have been using Retaine MGD for several years, and a single use vial lasts for several drops/day. Oasis is also a good drop. I have glaucoma, a precipitating factor in dry eye syndrome, and have even gone to preservative free glaucoma drops. I use lid scrubs daily and agree with you that the warm eye mask is very beneficial in stimulating the meibomian glands. Another important consideration is to not have air blowing on your eyes, which is quite a task since I live in FL and everything is air conditioned to the max - sigh! I hope sharing information will be of value to others who are dealing with dry eyes. Best Regards, Ashby 1947.

I have not but I find that with too many eye drops (4 on the left eye 3 on the right) my nose runs like crazy and I sneeze a lot⁉️Does anyone else experience this? Sometimes my left ear is affected as well. Many thanks, Marianne

This makes a lot of sense
Lendalin…I also have to watch out for many more things that I used to not care a thing about…for example I need to be careful of open cupboards in the kitchen etc, also heat: extreme heat hurts both my eyes as does extreme cold. In extreme cold I tear and my tears freeze on my cheeks…all the best, Marianne
