Living with Neuropathy - Welcome to the group
Welcome to the Neuropathy group.
This is a welcoming, safe place where you can meet other people who are dealing with neuropathy. Let’s learn from each other and share stories about living well with neuropathy, coping with the challenges and offering tips.
I’m Colleen, and I’m the moderator of this group, and Community Director of Connect. Chances are you’ll to be greeted by volunteer patient Mentor John (@johnbishop) and fellow members when you post to this group. Learn more about Moderators and Mentors on Connect.
We look forward to welcoming you and introducing you to other members. Feel free to browse the topics or start a new one.
Let’s chat. Why not start by introducing yourself? What concerns would you like to talk about?

People thought I got into an accident. But no that how bad it got. There was days I could not stand let alone walk
Today I noticed my right big toe was way out of line. I can no longer move it. It is strange it is like it just is not there
ouch
Hello @rblogan, Welcome to Connect. It sounds like you may have a hammer toe which is pretty common with neuropathy from what my neurologist told me. I shared my story in another discussion here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/310341/.
Have you been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy? How long have you had the symptoms?
Yes I have been diagnosed with neuropathy. several months I have had systoms.
My husband just read about a study written up in a medical journal about fasting from 2pm to 8am or thereabouts to help relieve neuropathy pain and discomfort. Is this a thing you are aware of and is it valid?
Welcome @marthamurphysc, The good news is that it doesn't cost anything to try it and it does help with losing weight. I've been doing intermittent fasting for a couple of years now and it's helped my lose some weight and more important for me, keep it off. I mostly do a 16, 18 or sometimes 20 hour fast. If you have a smartphone you can download an app that makes it easy to keep track of your fasting - https://zerolongevity.com/.
Here's are a couple of articles on the topic:

fasting-induced, microbiome-derived metabolite enhances peripheral nerve regeneration: https://www.nature.com/articles/s41392-022-01186-6

I don't have pain with my neuropathy but I do think it's helping some with the numbness I have. There is also a discussion on the topic that you might want to read through to learn what others have shared.

Is your husband tried any other treatments to help with his neuropathy pain?
Good evening @marthamurphysc, it is great to meet you. Do you remember the name of the publication? I see that @johnbishop has responded to your post about fasting. I think he has the answer to your questions. So....maybe we can get him back here to explain the process in greater detail for you. Here is the link to the LCHF intermittent fasting support group.

I do know that John has no pain with his small fiber peripheral neuropathy. However, his other symptoms do require attention and persistence.
Is it you or your husband that is dealing with neuropathy pain and discomfort?
May you be free of suffering and the causes of suffering.
Chris
I've been living with neuropathy for years I've had countless number of tests countless number of medications but the bottom line is there is no cure for neuropathy not nerve regeneration not dieting not sleep not batwing soup not I have toad you're just going to have to live with it
Hi @duhhuh, Sounds like you haven't found any relief for your neuropathy symptoms yet but have tried a lot of different medications. Have you tried any complementary or alternative treatments? The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list that some folks have found helpful here - https://www.foundationforpn.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Complementary-and-Alternative-Treatments-Revised-2020-final.-1.pdf
