Burning gut issues still, 11 months out

Posted by southam97 @southam97, Nov 21, 2022

My most plaguing symptoms 11 months out are burning gut from my belly to the back of my throat. Endoscopy reveals nothing. Yet it hasn't improved at all. It keeps me awake at night and miserable by day. Little appetite. The chronic nausea I can deal with easier ( but no vomiting) but this incessant burning inside from top to my belly is crazy.
I also have spasms just under my ribs that feel like early labor pains. No one can tell me what is going on inside my body.

Anyone else dealing with similar?

I am curious about the spasms just under your ribs. I have been left with spasms of my diaphragm (bronchspasms). My diaphragm will spasm pushing upward (as if it is in the relaxed position, before breathing in) and is involuntary. This happens from taking a deep breath while doing mild aerobic exercise, even walking the length of one block. While spamming, it will be difficult to breath in and requires energy and focus to stop the spasm. This is from covid. I’ve not heard from anyone who shares this problem and wonder if this is your experience. It has been a year since covid and has gotten better but not gone away.

Is the burning gut you talk about reflux? I ask because I too had this problem for which I used Tums constantly. I’ve also gone on a low acid diet and now find much relief as the symptoms have eased and I rarely need the tums.

I guess I want to say that conditions can get better with time and attention.

Suggestion: what if the spasms are neurologically triggered? Theywouldn't show up on a test. I am using a combination of 2 supplements to help with neurological pain, which has helped reduce the severity of the joint and neuropathy pain that was my second most critical problem, because I don't take pain killers. The first and overwhelming disability is intractiblr fatigue. Spasms: I would be tempted to try this protocol, since it is noninvasive. Taurine 2x/day between meals. I use Now brand, states supports healthy nervous function. I paired it with Boron, 3 mg., any brand, 2/day spaced out between meals and taurine. Boron is essenal for healthy bones, but I read that it lowers pain. Intuitively, if there is less pain, there is likely healthier functioning. The amounts are so low, there can be no down side. This combination actually blocks my nerve for hours at a time. This use is all intuitive, I never read it anywhere, but it seems to be working. The taurine was recommended by another Mayo Connect member. All the best with overcoming the spasms and enjoying life.

I am having terrible intestinal pain and weight loss. Nausea and awful stomach issues. I am taking Gaviscon and probiotics. Maybe I should try taurine and Boron
I am gluten and dairy intolerant, but can have yogurt and I also do not take pain meds. My pain is excruciating. Also taking Prilosec 20mg twice daily.
I got Covid on Oct 25, 2022

Yes, all same plus severe cramping and pain in stomach and intestines and groin. I’m taking Gaviscon and Prilosec and yogurt (probiotic) eating only none processed foods! It is helping, but not curing!

One month after having a mild covid, I started having painful bloating, cramping and then watery diarrhea. For six weeks. I could only eat a bland, brat diet. I lost 10 lbs. Two trips to my doctor revealed normal labs and stool cultures. I started taking Immodium in the AM, and one carton Activia yogurt AM and PM. The diarrhea stopped. I continue taking the Activia twice daily. Stools return to normal. Still occasional cramping, nothing serious. Still a bland diet, nothing greasy or spicey. Lots of rest. Doing OK. Will never take any more of the covid vax. The spike protein tried to eat my guts, I feel.

Thank you for validating my symptoms. I think family n friends think it’s all in my head. We know it isn’t and can relate. Wish you well and better days ahead!!

Sunny, most yogert products you can buy in grocery stores have a ton of sugar in them(and god knows what else!) With the gut problems you are describing, sugar is NOT your friend. I buy chobani drinkable yogurts when I haven't had time to make my I own. My culture is dead right now or I wouldn't be using a store bought yogurt at all. It's very easy but you will have to purchase an active yeast culture. I know I've seen it on Amazon(I think? Brain fog!) but I got mine from a friend. If you can tolerate it unsweetened, that's best. If you can't handle it, natural sweeteners are the way to go. I have added fruit but it's difficult to seperate it from your culture curds.
Best wishes, Renee

P.S. Chobani is probably not any better than others that you buy...with my culture dead I have to THINK it is : ) Renee

Yep. Treating my stuff with natural herb capsules. Not 100% but better, bout all one can hope for?
Ginger root for nausea
Potassium and magnesium for muscle spasms.
Believe it or not there is a product called Ice(2%)available at most dollar stores that is a gel you rub on. It works better than some of the uber expensive stuff I've tried...really! It does dye your hands blue if you don't wash it off right away.
Ashwagandah for ANYTHING wrong with you. I could honestly become a raving rep for this amazing herb! Unable to take ANY meds during or post covid, I was "tore up from the floor up". The first herb I was able to get past my lips(and keep down) was ashwagandha. I went from needing to be fitted for a straight jacket to MUCH better VERY quickly.
Best Wishes, Renee
