cramping with no ovaries, cervix, or uterus?

Posted by Strong Enough 2011 @strongenough2011, Jun 27, 2012

I have had a hysterectomy almost 3 years ago due to constant female problems.....mainly my ovaries having cysts and rupturing.

Within the last month, my stomach has constantly been bloated everyday, and I am cramping alot. ( I know that this feels exactly like it would if I had my ovaries and a cyst on it)...I am nausous often.

Went to my family dr 2 weeks ago and he did some blood work and checked my kidneys....kidneys were fine...blood work showed a wbc of 3.5 and a platlet count of 128, not to mention my absolute neutrophil count as 1474. All of it is on the low side.

Could this be female related? I have always heard that ovarin cancer can cause swelling of the stomach....but i don't have any ovaries....

any suggestions please?

thanks

I had a total hysterectomy about 12 years ago and recently I have developed cramps, and feeling like I have my period. I also notice that sometimes I have waves of nausea. My nipple on the right side has been hurting also, it’s A constant sharp pain.

Hi, @mollygirl, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I'd like to introduce you to some others who've talked about hysterectomy: @purrplegnome, @ajnaudra, @caligodgirl, @countrygirl2 , @lezlie21, @virtuous69 and @retiredteacher. Hoping they will have some insights for you.

What does your doctor say about these symptoms, @mollygirl?

I have no suggestions but I have an issue similar to yours. I have no uterus or cervix and still experience mental cramps. When my feet touches a cold floor I have bad cramps. My hysterectomy was over 10 years ago. Is this normal?

Try Emory Clinic on Clifton Rd. or the one at Emory Midtown (Old Crawford Long Hospital). They have a great gyno team and they consult with each other. Emory has their profiles online so you can see which doc would be best for you to see. I would suggest Martinuzzi or Hill (Harvard Med grad) but all are great.

I had hysterectomy more than 10 yrs ago, but when I am around anyone esp family members that are menstruating I get their symptoms. Cramps, bloating, back pain, chocolate cravings and grumpiness, even the pre PMS stuff. I usually tell them, \"pls take a pill, you\'re killing me here\". Not sure what I can do about it, but would love some ideas. Would be great if it was just psychosomatic, but the pain and other symptoms are very real to me.

Hello, @tea69 - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. You mentioned that though you've had a total hysterectomy, you cramp during your daughter's cycles, and that they live with you. You also mentioned "all of the above." I'm wondering if you could share more about what other symptoms you are experiencing, as well?

I had a full hysterectomy 6 months ago and I have been having cramping. I never had it before till yesterday.

@tea69 @kimsmith @lisalucier I had partial over 10 years ago, work with women who still have cycles and one on pill. I have symptoms similar to my presurgery ovulation as well as menstrual pains. Both include pain, emotional highs lows, eating more and bloating. They have gotten worse over last two years. My doctor doesn’t seem to negate I have problems but no real explanation of why. Honestly, I’m growing more frustrated with the symptoms as today I’m having cramps like I did when I was 13 and I’m now 48. I do know I will still ovulate it’s the intensity of symptoms and pain then and when I would be considered menstrating as though I’ve never had surgery. I’ve mentioned this to both my gynecologist and primary care physicians who are women as well.
I take otc pms, evening primrose, e and b6/12. Is this something we continue to live with as women? Is there permanent treatment? I’ve gone from one week a month crazy to feeling one week a month sane @tea@@tea69and pain free. I’m not menopausal per my blood work two months ago. I welcome feedback, suggestions or better ways to manage my symptoms. Btw...There’s another lady I work with that had partial as well. She and I are battling these same symptoms in the same cycles. Thankful for this forum.

I've had total hysterectomy 4 yrs ago for endometriosis. The endo. went undiagnosed for many years. Since the surgery weather has bothered me alot. We've had 2 floods since then, and I've been able to 100% accurately predict them 6-12 hrs ahead of the flood. Storms make me ache and Advil will not stop it, although it does help. I suspect phantom pain, but doctors either don't believe me or don't know what is going on.
SOmetimes it seems like I still have some cyclic pain (and some spotting), but I don't see how that can be? Also seem to get crampy when this happens.
Does anyone know what could be happening? I've had everything removed.
I've gone gluten free and there is a 75% chance that I'm celiac, lacked the antibodies.

Hi, @airey2, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Since you are wondering about some cramping and spotting you are having after a total hysterectomy for endometriosis, I'd like to invite other members who have talked about hysterectomy to share their thoughts about your experiences, like @sunshine9105 @cstuder81 @susu2 @mollygirl @epohyag43 @alphiabranch @gwinter @karenrbach @gingerw.

My colleague @kanaazpereira has also shared some journal studies about chronic post-surgical pain (CPSP) after hysterectomy that may be useful to you:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5553861/
https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/67c2/addf675c46905c1a40df4bd97a4c896012ea.pdf

@airey2 - has your surgeon who performed the hysterectomy weighed in on what might be going on with the pain and spotting you've experienced? If so, did he or she have any information you might share?

I had to drop my surgeon. He did not believe me when I told him that weather seemed to bother me. Then just 6 months after surgery, I started having what I thought was a pain crisis and called the office. His nurse never returned any of my calls, or letters, or faxes ( tried every mode of communication possible, with no results). So I decided to drop him. Current ob/gyn prescribed estrogen but that made matters worse (endometriosis feeds off estrogen).
PCP took recent ultrasounds and they were all normal.

Hi, @airey2 - since you didn't hear back from your surgeon and the estrogen the OB/GYN prescribed did not work, can you message or call the OB/GYN's office to report on the estrogen and see if there might be another option?
