I have been taking areds for 3 months. Did anyone ever feel like you had a narrowing of the esaphogus and couldn't swallow as easy?

Yes... but I am in 80's and assume many symptoms are age related... but I do notice swallowing is more difficult and wondered if it is related to AREDS 2. Hmmm?

My ophthalmologist prescribed Preservision AREDS2. The first time I took it I had neurologic side effects (have tremor, tiredness and weakness) and stopped taking it after a couple of days. The second time I tried to take it I took it for several days and all my neurologic problems increased and I felt terrible. I stopped taking it and will not take it again.

I too was prescribed Areds2 and took them for one year. I experienced hair loss. The next year at my eye exam I was told to stop the Areds and start something different. I was told that Areds are to be taken only if one has macular degeneration and not to take it for preventing it. I do not have macular degeneration so now I am confused as what to take.

I have a stomach ache after taking PresserVision Areds2. I always take it with food. Recently I had some internal bleeding. I stopped taking all supplements. I wonder if the Alreds2 was in conflict with other supplements. I have Intestiual Lung Disease with general dryness. Wonder if that's part of the problem.

Hi @gagirl2019 and welcome. I'm tagging @sally1b2b to see if she has any tips about dealing with upset stomach related to AREDS2. Have you discussed the possibility of reducing your dosage with your doctor? Do you find the upset stomach to be less with either the morning or the evening dose?

My upset stomach is only in the morning . I take the other one before going to bed . I wondered about the dosage being the same no matter the weight . I have also noticed muscle weakness in my legs .

I'm in my 80's & had a GI Bleed which was tough to overcome. I spent (5) days in hospital with many transfusions before bleed stopped. I believe the difficulty was the vitamin E component of the Areds2 gel tabs that were taken (2x/day) for about (5) years.
Vitamin E is fat soluble; therefore over (5) years that would be a large accumulation of Vitamjn E in my body. Vitamin E is a blood thinner and causes difficulty with blood clotting, I probably have a weak spot in my colon that has a tendency to bleed & likewise in my nose lining.
When I was discharged from the hospital, I decided to quit Areds2 completely. I had (1) GI Bleed since & also nose bleeds but they all cease rather quickly without any need for a hospital.
Now I'm hoping to find a substitute for Areds2 without Vitamin E.
Anyone have any suggestions????

I am 81 and have been using Preservision Areds 2 for countless years. Just recently I switched to Pure Encapsulations brand Macular Support. Most of my vitamins are from this company. There is no Vit E. They have other added ingredients like bilberry and grape extract seeds which may help additionally for my dry stable Macular Degeneration. There are numerous eye vitamins around which include lutein and zeaxanthin .
This particular brand is not cheap and I ha e decided to take only 1 daily
My food is essentially my vitamin. Will attach photo

Just my two cents. Have had wet macular bleeds both eyes. Currently no bleeds for over one year and over four years in other eye. Have taken Presser Vision every day, currently one per day, previously two each day. I have had no problems taking this supplement. I am 87 years old
