Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS): Anyone found any relief?

I have all the symptoms of BMS. Went to dermatologist and ENT and had all the test-blood work, mouth swab and even35 patches on my back to see if I am allergic to anything. I have had this BMS on and off for the past 2 years. It starts with my lips swelling up. It looks like I had a bad Botox job. Luckily that only lasted for 2 days but the tongue and roof of my mouth still feels like I scolded them and the lips remains sore. Is this the symptoms you had? Where is your doctor located?

From the conversations I read there seems to be very little that can be done for BMS. I also belong to a private group on Facebook where there are thousands of members that belong to it. I can tell you that there are many people out there who have this BMS for years and have had very little relief. The problem with the Mayo Clinic blog is the latest conversation is from 2021. What happen to these people ? Did they just give up 🤷‍♀️. Thanks

I’m on my 12th year. Got it under control with Xanax . Went many years with very little pain so decided to wean myself off. Got myself down to 1/4 mg. With no side effects and very little pain. Then stopped altogether for two weeks and it came back. Xanax was the only thing that worked . Back on it. For the duration. Being a controlled drug it’s hard to get doctors to prescribe. I tried everything, only Xanax worked. Miserable dam condition!

Blue, wow, that is really interesting. Were you able to go back to 1/4 mg or did you have to titrate back up to get the pain under control?

Just started back on 1/4 (all doc would go for) and not helping much so far. I was on 1/2 when it was under control. I suspect I will have to get back on that first then wean down when I can . At my age docs don’t want to prescribe. Big mistake thinking I had it beat. Doc told me in 2011 it would last the duration. Taking some gaba when needed too. Thanks for your interest.

Good morning I am trying to figure out if I do have bms. My symptoms are nasty burning taste that goes all around my mouth and when I swallow it burns my throat. I hand fillings done and I have noticed I got this when I had them done. As this happen to anyone else please get in touch thankyou.

Welcome @wmichelle, I hate going to the dentist anyway and to have a nasty burning taste and burning when swallowing after having some fillings has to be just awful. I did find some information on the topic here:

Have you discussed the symptoms with an ENT doctor or your dentist to see if they might have some suggestions?

Hello everyone I am stuck in a rut at the moment. Please can someone help me i had 4 fillings put in and since having then done I have this nasty burning taste that comes all around my mouth. Burns my tongue and throat. Gets really bad after I eat simple things actually anything. Happens when I only drink water. Has this happen to anyone else. And may I add I have lost 6 stone in the time I have had this symptoms. Please help and thank you. I have sent a picture of what's my tongue is like since this.
