Covid and AFib Connection?

Posted by cece55 @cece55, Oct 8, 2021

Hello Everyone,

I am curious and would like to ask this group a question. I have AFib but had not had an event for over a year except for last November. In early February of this year I took the Phizer Vaccine for Covid and had several Afib events with one lasting over a month even with cardioversion. I ended up having an ablation in May and the electrophysiologist found an enlarged and scarred atrium.

I have been doing well and am still on Flecainade, Metoporal and Eliquis. He is about to take the Flecainade away. It is time for my booster shot and I am scared that it will put me into Afib again. My Electrophysiologist and Cardiologist at Mayo said they don't feel that the vaccine had anything to do with my Afib events starting up again.

Has anyone here experienced this? I am debating whether or not to cancel my appointment next week or just take the shot. My doctors said it is better to take the booster than to get Covid.

Thoughts?

Thank You...Blessings to all of you during this trying time. CeCe55

Hello all, I’m wondering how folks like me, that have developed new or worsening a-fib as a result of the COVID-19 vaccines are doing? I am still having random a-fib events. But much more under control with flecainide and metoprolol routine. EP says there definitely seems to be a connection to vaccine for me that may wear off. Anyone with a vaccine connection able to get back to normal and eliminate the a-fib episodes?

I had a period of frequent a-fib events for a couple of months after my 1st Covid (Moderna) booster (3rd vaccine). Finally, after a 7-hour event of heart rate at 185 I ended up in ER and received a full cardiac workup. Went on Metoprolol which helped. 7 months out, and after having even another booster (Cardiologist recommended) I am not having any more bouts that I have detected and have been off the Metoprolol for a few weeks now. I keep it handy as a rescue pill if need be. Still on Eliquis. Note that I probably had a couple of a-fib events prior to the Covid vaccine incident, but not that were diagnosed at the time and only in retrospect do I think that was the case.

I had my first two Moderna shots in early 2021. Went into Afib 3 weeks after first shot. Then again in Jan 2022. Cardiovert both times. Don't plan on any more Covid shots and have been Afib free since Jan. Hoping things have settled down..

I have a history of A-fib for the last 5 years after having a PFO closure that was substantial. I go into A-fib a couple of times weekly but it corrects itself after less than 30 seconds. I got my Pfizer vaccine initial dose without any issue but after my second dose started to go into A-fib 15 to 20 times daily. I'm only on Eliquis. My resting heart rate is in the low 50s. I exercise 6 days a week and watch my diet closely. My cardiologist wanted to start my on Metoprolol but my heart rate is too slow. It took about a month to get back to normal. My employer is going to force us to get a booster this fall. I'm definitely concerned. I had Covid back in January with minimal symptoms. Everyone says to worry about Covid. Ways doesn't anyone ( my PCP and Cardiologist) seem to care about my A-fib.

See my comment just before yours. The Moderna shots put me into Afib after 9 yrs of being on defetilide with no Afib. Not getting any more shots. I only had the first two. And from all I am reading, (1) the shots don't do a bit of good (you'll still get Covid) and (2) consensus seems to be that the vaccines are damaging the immune system. I think about 5 yrs from now, there's going to be a big awakening at how our government screwed this up.

I had the Moderna vaccine in February and woke up with A-F that night about 1:00 am. Plus had other side effects. I don't know if the vaccine triggered the episode or if it didn't. I have been having episodes of A-F every 3-4 weeks.

I got the Prizer double jab. Until then, total heart health! Low blood pressure. Physically fit and very active since I was an industrial grunt (blue collar worker) in automotive for over two decades.

Now? A-fib and the attendant blood clots.

If I'd known then what I know now.

Oh, just as serious, my strictly cutaneous mastocytosis has escalated to GI MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

I’m very interested in replies to this because I had my first ever bout with a fib (except immediate post surgery) after my second Pfizer vaccine shot. After the first shot I got very sick with flu-like symptoms and had to go into the hospital two weeks after the second shot. I asked my dr and he said it was possible, but they don’t know because of not enough information or research.

Bettyann6, I also suffer from A-fib after the Pfizer double jab. Also have blood clots so taking 1/2 of an adult aspirin every evening. As to flu-like symptoms, mine have been intestinal. No fever. No nausea. No congestion. No coughing, sniffling or sneezing. My totally under control mastocytosis (cutaneous only) escalated to MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

Recently read a legit article in a health and news newsletter. Topic of the article: Worldwide Escalation of Food Hypersensitivity Due to CoVid/Vaccines. I now must research every food, beverage, condiment, even my many supplements for histamine content.

I had a diagnosis of benign a fib . I took the first Covid shot Pfizer and nothing happened much . With the second dose I had both intestinal problems and indigestion and lung congestion and after five weeks an episode of a fib that was different.
I’m now on a blood thinner, and concerned about the booster .

Kernell, you are not alone. Going through these A-fib posts as much as I can. Amazed to see how many others have post-jab A-fib.

And (drum roll, please...) like you, MAJOR intestinal problems. With up to nine episodes per day, I'm getting desperate to keep my weight up. Seems my strictly cutaneous mastocytosis (totally under control for decades with OTC antihistamines) has escalated to GI MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

As to a blood thinner, I'm taking 1/2 of an adult aspirin every evening.

Would you tell us what intestinal problems you experienced after the Pfizer vaccine? Thank you.

tarmasbks, after the Pfizer double jab, A-fib and up to nine episodes per day of diarrhea. I now suffer from GI MCAS (mast cell activation syndrome).

I am now allergic to almost every food on the planet. Have to research the histamine content of everything I put in my mouth--even my supplements. Keeping a tedious food diary, made even more boring since my diet is so limited.

My Husband had the Pfizer vaccine this last spring. (both shots) recently his apple watch said he was have AFIB. he has never had this and this does not run in his family. He went to have is checked out but the GP could not find anything on an EKG and referred him to cardiologist. He is 70 not at all over weight and no major medical conditions. Both his parents passed way in their mid 90s of natural causes. I am concerned the the covid shot has opened up a Pandora's box. Is this normal and have others have had this experience?

Add me to the list, kc130! A-fib, blood clots and months of chronic diarrhea.

If I'd known then what I know now.

Self-described as obnoxiously healthy, I got the Pfizer double jab only because my husband is high risk for several reasons.

Oh that is no way to live, I am sorry to hear of your food intolerance plus the dread of afib episodes. M.E.
